Bottle from 2014, picked up on sale for $1.99 on Halloween ’15. Pours an amber color with light ruby tones, topped with a flimsy beige head and spotty lacing. The nose is sweet with citrus, faded citrus hops, vanilla, caramel, and what I associate most with red licorice. Taste is lightly sweet up front, finishes with moderate floral bitters. Just a hint of oxidation. Soft mouthfeel. Feelin’ pretty good about rolling the dice on this year-old bottle as it turned out to be a winner in my book.

GABF 2015. Dark gold color. It smells and tastes like stomach acid. Something went wrong and i think this should have been dumped. it was undrinkable.

Sample at GABF 09/26/2015, thanks to my sis for assistance with note-taking. Clear pale golden color with a thin white head that evaporates quickly. Spotty lacing. Fruity aroma with some yeast and malt notes. Light-bodied with a tart rhubarb character plus yeast and biscuit malt flavors. The finish is fruity with a rhubarb and citrus aftertaste. Above average overall.

Can from Mitsuya. Drank straight from the can. Grapefruit aroma with some like pine and orange. Lots of citrus on the palate with good pine character as well. Bitterness is kind of spiky and malts had a tired aspect on the finish. Not bad though. --- Beer merged from original tick of IPA on 25 Oct 2015 at 16:40 - Score: 6

Bottle from Albertsons. Seeing some high scores, and not getting it. Pretty average, run of the mill IPA. Well constructed, drinkable, not overly hoppy. Good, but not great.

This was poured into a pint glass.
The appearance was a nice looking black color with a one to two finger white to off white lush playful looking level head. Light clingy lacing sticks nicely.
The smell starts with sweet creamy cocoa smooth and clean, and leading into a nice roasty coffee. Light black licorice slides in to balance. Vanilla is really subtle.
The taste was a nice sweet sticky cocoa running into the roasty coffee and light vanilla sweetness. There’s a light aftertaste of sweet cocoa with roasty coffee undertones. There’s a quick little sweet finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light allowing the sweetness to be somewhat sticky on my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good milk/sweet stout that I would have again.

This was poured into a tulip.
The appearance was a hazy golden color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute. Barely any lacing was there at all.
The smell started out with a light sweet to spicy blend of citrus and floral. Light sweet grassy and apple roll in underneath.
The taste copies the smell nicely and has a decent sweet grassy to apple-like aftertaste. The finish is wet and somewhat refreshing.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a nice sessionability about it. Carbonation runs fairly light with a crisp refreshing feel all around.
Overall, what a nice saison, I’d have this again.
