Established in 2007
Crow Peak Brewing Company started in the spring of 2007 as a modest 5-barrel brewery with on-premise sales in the form of pints and off-premise sales in the form of 64-ounce growlers. The brewery was extremely successful, and in order to provide a quality local beer to other parts of the State and beyond, a brewery expansion was in order. The beautiful new brewery building opened for business in December of 2009.
However, our beers were still being brewed on our 5-barrel system while we were waiting for our new 30-barrel brew house – three 60-barrel fermentation vessels and 60-barrel bright beer tank to arrive and be installed. Installation of the new equipment, plumbing, wiring and boiler system was completed in June of 2010. In addition to the larger brewing system, a Cask automated canning line was brought online in the fall of 2010, allowing us to distribute our product in both draft and packaged form.
By the end of 2015, Crow Peak Brewing Company was producing 2,000 barrels of beer annually and was distributing its products in South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Minnesota. We were finding it hard to keep up with demand, especially in the summer months so we underwent a second expansion in 2018. With two additional fermentation vessels and one additional bright beer tank, we are now able to produce approximately 5,000 barrels annually.

Slightly hazy copper and deep bronze coloured body with a nice two to three centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of crisp hops with a perfumey and piney bite along with a dash of good strong malt and ending with a light sweetness from resin and pears. Medium-bodied; Strong assertive hop bitterness shows through at first with a lot of grain and malt to balance it out, but the resinous and very perfumey hop bitterness shines through and leaves things quite bitter, in a good way, all with a light tropical/pineappley note at the end with some additional resin, with some alcohol poking through as well. Aftertaste shows the grass, hay and floral notes with some malt backbone, but the bitterness from the hops are the strongest, for sure. Overall, a fairly nice, relatively strong IPA that has a lot of perfumey, piney and especially floral notes with a good balance and pungent profile throughout. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Family Fare [grocery store] in Rapid City, South Dakota on 25-June-2020 for US$1,67 sampled in my hotel room here in Rapid City, South Dakota a few hours later on 26-June-2020.

Perfectly clear golden coloured body with a very light tan head, about three to four centimetres tall. Aroma of light malt, a touch of cardboard, some soft apples and stone fruits and a dash of lactose/cream along with a hint of bread, yeast and some dry earthy and rustic scents. Light-bodied; Very fresh malt flavour of biscuity and cracker-y malts with a dry caster sugar note and some hits of apples and lighter stone fruits. Aftertaste is crisp without too much flavour and showing some light malts, a hint of sugar and very little else - no hops to speak of at all, and nothing bitter in the slightest bit. Overall, a decent enough cream ale that has some very soft flavours that aren't too pungent or strong, but shows some light flavours and soft sweetness with a relatively fresh malt kick towards the end. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Family Fare [grocery store] in Rapid City, South Dakota on 25-June-2020 for US$1,67 sampled in my hotel room here in Custer, South Dakota on 27-June-2020.

Can shared in Canary Wharf, London - many thanks to Dave-O for the obscure state. Pours totally clear gold with a creamy, white head. So so, a bit harsh, with strong grassy bitterness, flowers, citrus peel. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly resinous finish, with very harsh bitterness. Unbalanced.
