“Because without beer, things do not seem to go as well.”
In 1989, Free State Brewing Company became the first legal brewery in Kansas in over 100 years. Since opening the doors at our Mass Street HQ, we’ve been working day in and day out to be a haven for beer lovers, where good beer and good food can inspire lively conversations and memorable experiences.
Our 14-barrel brewhouse is made up of some of the best equipment available to the small brewer, but we still think the most important ingredients are the care and respect that our enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff has for each and every beer that we make. And now that we’re producing bottled beers in our expanded bottling facility, our attention to detail and dedication to great taste and quality can be experienced by people all over Kansas and Missouri.

12oz bottle as Golden..no mention of wheat. Medium bodied, straightforward, well made. Clean simple ingredients. Not a lot going on, but a pleasant enough session beer.

Bottle pour into shaker pint glass. Appearance was hazy light brown with decent sparkle, 1/2 finger-width white foamy head, poor retention, nice soapy lacing. Aroma was dank resinous with some citrus, light fruit. Taste was as aroma--bitter dominant. Palate was medium bodied with thick, slippery texture, average carbonation and mostly bitter finish. Overall, bitter dominates sort of like a weak West Coast IPA. OK.

Willebecher pint draft at BRGR Kitchen + Bar in Leawood, Kansas. The pour is mostly clear golden with a ½ inch foamy white head. The aroma is clean cereal grain and straw. The taste is the clean fresh cereal grain malt, balanced nicely with grass, straw and slight sweetness. The palate is light to medium bodied, active natural carbonation and a crisp softly sweet mineral finish. Tasty, easy drinking beer.

12 oz single purchased at MDL Wine and Spirits in Overland Park, Kansas. Best by month 2, week 4 notched on label. The pour is mostly clear golden with a foamy one inch off white head that falls slow with splotchy lace. The aroma is clean cracker cereal malt, along with a gentle floral hop. The taste mineral, cracker malt, and earth, softly spice floral hop notes. The palate is medium to light bodied, active carbonation and dry mineral finish. Nice one.

Bottle to glass. Pours a hazy yellow and full white head. Lots of spice and herb really drown out the great hop combo.

Draft/Fest. A- Raspberry. A- Pink color, hazy liquid, pink head. T- Tart, berries, subtle spice. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, tart finish. O- Not bad but I expected a more floral aroma from the rose and hibiscus. Didn’t get any of that. Instead of some raspberry. Still plenty drinkable.

Dark copper color. Interesting take on the style. It’s much sweeter and a bit syrupy than the typical Mexican lager. So, i think they were really going for the actual Austrian Vienna style. I love that I has flavor but it’s just too sweet for the style. A bit of rye bread, low hops.
