(Can) Pours black with small tan head. Aroma of roast malt with notes of coffee and berries. Great mouthfeel. Medium bodied, smooth, slightly sticky with moderate soft carbonation. Good taste too. Quite sweet with a backbone of toffee. There’s coffee notes and a coffee, burnt sugar bitterness. There’s some berry notes at the start. Very enjoyable.

(Can) Pours black with a modest tan head. Great aroma of pine, citrus, and dark roast malt. Medium bodied, smooth with mouth filling soft carbonation giving an excellent mouthfeel. Great taste with some complexity. There’s a good stout base with dark roast grain, coffee and some black treacle bitterness. Overlaid on this is some great hops giving some short lived citrus tartness at the start, some nice herbal notes through the middle and some hoppy bitterness in the finish. There’s some dark chocolate in there at the end too. Unusual and very enjoyable.

(Can) Pours slightly hazy red tinted mid brown with small tan head. Great aroma of pine over citrus and toffee notes. Medium body with good carbonation. Flavour is a backbone of dark toffee malt with plenty of hops a robust level of bitterness, and herbal notes. There’s some citrus at the start. For me, the bitterness is dialled up a bit too far to work with malt flavours - it seems busy and intense.

(Can) Pours slightly hazy pale gold with tiny white head. Good aroma of passionfruit, citrus and pine. Light body with bright carbonation. Pleasant taste. Passionfruit and lemon up front. Nice peppery bitterness at the end. Refreshing, easy drinking.

(Can) Pours deep brown with red hints and a small tan head. Great aroma - dark roast grain, with coffee notes. Medium bodied, very well carbonated giving a soft mouth filling texture. Good taste. A gently tart start gives way to toffee and coffee notes. Little bitterness. Very pleasant.

(Can) Pours hazy straw colour with small loose white head. Pleasant aroma with notes of lemon and hints of pepper. Light body with plenty of carbonation. Pleasant taste if rather low key. There’s lemon notes up front that are joined with peppery notes that grow through the palate to a gentle bitter finish. Hints of biscuit. Quaffable, easy drinking.

Can. Amber with a good cm of pale beige head. Shyish aroma of ctirus and boiled lollies. More presence upon a taste with citrus and some tropical fruit, sticky breadcrust before decent bitterness. OK, let down by the aroma a bit.

From a 375ml can on 19/1/2025. Pours a clear light amber red with a medium head. Has a modest dark fruit and malt aroma. Tastes of citrus and a touch of dried fault with some hint of toasty malt. Finishes moderately bitter with just a touch of pine and resin. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Noting the referenced awards, I find it a bit bland and disappointing for the style.

Can. Brown, a cm of pale beige head. Aroma of bread, brown sugar, some citrus. More depth than that suggested though with layers of sweet malt before moderate bitterness. Quite cold ~8C was the right choice.

Schooner on tap at Club Rivers. Pours a very pale yellow with a thin head of solid foam. Nice lacing. Fruity nose, citric. Very easy to drink, hints of guava. Sweet lingering fruity finish, hints of lemon bitterness. Drinkable, the 'XPA' conundrum continues.
