Day 21

Reckless Red IPA 6.5%

It is a cloudy cool winter day in Australia today so I thought I’d crack this beauty. Reddish amber with thick fluffy beige foam and a big peppery malty aroma with piney hop notes.

Medium to full bodied and smooth. This is a bitter piney IPA with some peppercorn, tobacco leaf and biscuit notes. It hits the spot, tasty.

Can. Misted golden amber with nearly a cm of white head. Pungent under-ripe tropical fruit aroma with some citrus & berries and a fair bit of pine. Perhaps a little sweeter than guessed but nice fruity-but-savoury notes before somewhat resinous bitterness. Good, full of character.

Can. Mid brown with a pale beige head. Aroma of pine, oranges, mocha, light bread. Moderately sweet with sweet coffee & oranges before a little pine and bitterness that maybe seems a little light on because the finish is a little sweet.

Sunrise seems to be the name of a newish fingerlime hybrid. Can. Pale, slightly hazy orange with a white head. Aroma of lime, orange, spiced dough - there being additions is delectable but not obvious. Sweet and a little honeyed before spices and hops help things snap a bit more towards the end. Pretty good.

As IWD XPA. Can. Somewhat cloudy yellow with a modest white head. Tropical and Meyer lemon peel aroma with some crackers. Citrus is more prominent upon a swig and it sharpens things nicely bore a slightly resinous, moderately bitter finish. OK.

(Can) Pours opaque orangish red with big pale pink head. Good aroma of plums. Medium body with plenty of bright prickly carbonation. A nice tart start. Plenty of plums. Some nice soft lactic notes adding some balance to the tartness. Tart finish. Very enjoyable.

(Can) Pours clear golden amber with good white head. Great aroma pine and dank notes. Great mouthfeel - medium bodied and smooth with plenty of mouth filling soft carbonation. Great full taste too. Plenty of hops from start to finish. Nicely balanced with some toffee malt sweetness. Good bitter finish. Very nice.

(Can) Pours hazy golden with small white head. Subtle aroma with notes of citrus, dankness and biscuit. Medium body with good carbonation. Taste is dominated by the hops. Plenty of dank herbal flavours from start to finish. The start has some short-lived tropical notes. There’s a good bitter finish. Very good.

(Can) Pours hazy pale gold with loose white head. Good aroma with citrus and pine. Light bodied and well carbonated. Taste is a little thin for me. There’s citrus up front and some pleasant peppery spice notes throughout. Easy drinking but light on flavour. Almost seems like a low alcohol beer.

(Can) Pours slightly hazy straw with small loose white head. Nice interesting unusual aroma with notes of spice and earthy and floral hints. Medium body with good carbonation. Good complex taste. There’s a pleasant citrus not that runs through the palate. There’s a nice peppery spice that cuts in early and follows through to the finish. There’s some lactic yoghurt hints towards the end. Very enjoyable.
