Description
MB "Šušvė mead" is a hobby that has become a business.
The founder of the company is a third-generation beekeeper, to whom the beekeeping traditions were passed on by his grandfather and mother. At the moment, we have our own apiary, where 200 beehives lick. Mead was already made by my grandfather, my mother, from whom I took over the secrets of mead cooking. In 2015, it opened its doors as the only producers of traditional mead in the country.
Our family is located in Kėdainiai district, Plinkaigalis village, on the shore of Šušvė, next to the famous Plinkaigalis mound and iron age cemetery. According to archaeologists in our country, mead was already known and drunk during various holidays and rites in prehistoric times. So, continuing the old traditions of the country, using my mother's experience, my knowledge, I founded a mead brewery. Mead is a natural fermentation, unspirited alcoholic beverage. All our mead is made from our bee honey , so we can always ensure high mead quality. When cooking mead honey, we do not regret – each litre of mead contains up to 750gr. of honey. We do not use any chemical additives in production, only natural raw materials (small amounts of sulphites in the composition occur spontaneously during the manufacturing process).
We ripen mead for at least 1 year, some species of mead ripen at least 3 years. Mead color, taste, smell is given by the main ingredient- honey. Matured mead tastes noble, uninconstruedly sweet, full. We pour our mead into bottles of original design, the corks are covered with natural beeswax, so the aroma spreads even without opening the bottle. This drink is recommended as a great gift or souvenir from Lithuania.

50cl bottle from Baltic Food, Oxford. Light to mid-gold and clear. Honey, grassy herbs, maybe a hint of citrus. Sweet honeyed taste but doesn’t run away with it. A sourness toward the finish, bitter herb. Silky smooth texture, thick, viscous. Not the best Lithuanian mead I’ve had but it’s pretty good.

20cl bottle. Pours reddish brown, clean, with no foam. Aroma is malty, but dominated by alcohol, excessive
Body is average, with no carbonation. Taste is fairly sweet, but pungent because of alcohol. Final is on the long side, persistent.

0.2l bottle from Klaipéda airport, Lithuania. Pours deep and brilliant orange, transparent, with no foam. Aroma is of honey and herbal. Body is thick and sticky, with no carbonation. Taste is definitely sweet, not hiding the alcoholic tone. This is particularly evident in the final, which is even pungent. Maybe it's the herbaceous feeling coming back here.

Sampled. Marsala, lemon, sherry, pear, green apple. Mild dry sourness, honey sweetness. Very smooth without any alcohol burning. Not experienced with this, but a nice sipper!

Bottle, 0.50l, courtesy of Šarunas and Vitalij. Aroma is floral, toasted and honeyish with dandelion note. Pours clear amber brown color. Taste starts sweet fruity and floral, following is tart and honeyish with smooth mouthfeel. Medium body, syrupy texture and mild carbonation. Soft and tart dandelions…
