Description
Our founder Oli Lemke welded his first own brewing plant in a friend’s garage in 1998. Infected by Oli’s euphoria, his friends turned into builders and helped to transform a derelict S-Bahn unit at the Hakescher Markt into a brewery. On the 21st November 1999 his dream became reality: The Brauhaus Lemke opened for the very first time.

Draught at the brewpub, clear light brown to red colour, light aroma of smoked meat with notes of vanila pod and plums, flavours of coal. smoked meat, heavily toasted bread and a hint of barnyard with some lighter malty aroma ibn the back leading to a subtle malty aftertaste. An intriguing balanced understated smokey beer with the smoke adding dimensions to the beer without overpowering.

Draught at the Hackescher Markt location. Poured a hazy pale yellow body, more like a zwickl. Eggy dusty light lemony nose. Earthy taste, beetrooty hoppy bitterness, slightly lemony. And I actually didn’t mind the beetroot here. Nice in a way.

Draught at the Hackescher Markt location. Poured a hazy radk red body with a small off white head. Light caramelly nose. A nicely sweet taste, Woody, perfumey and polleny. Slightly bready, eggy. Some bitter herbal hopiness, some yeastiness that clashes with the rest. Bitter aftertaste too. Got better as it warmed.

Draught at the Hackescher Markt location. Poured a murky orange body with a small white head. Gluey, acidic notes, dry and malty. Meh. The taste is sweet and eggy, acidic and lemony, lactic and better than the nose let on. Some fruity yeastiness, somewhat perfumey. Slightly acidic aftertaste. Ordinary, not stellar but one can have far worse.

Draught at the H.Markt Lemke. Poured a lovely hazy copper-bronze colour with a small slightly off white head. Light lemony aroma, slightly acidic. Superb... SUPERB taste. A light bready malty backbone upon which a distinctly lemony and pleasant lemony hopiness was built. Lightly sweet and woody. Superb drinkability. Almost no aftertaste but who cares. I cant remember the last time a lager of this type has excited me so. This year, apparently a winner.

100ml Bierprobe vom Fass at the brew pub near the Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station. Clear copper coloured body with a deep reddish tint. Patchy surface. Firm smell of mid-sweet malts. Hints of dried fruits on top of a caramel malty base. Very smooth and fresh. I did not ask for the alcohol strength, but about 5%, I would guess. My best of the four beers at the Brauhaus (Berlin, 23.11.2009).
