Description
Elgood & Sons is a family-owned brewing company situated in the heart of ‘Fen’ country in Cambridgeshire, England. Home to Elgood’s is the North Brink Brewery which was established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London.

In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business, maintain the traditions, and push the company boldly forward into the 21st Century.

Bottled (BB 07/2009)
Very dark ruby color, good tan head. Coffee, prune and caramel in the nose. Light palate, but not that light than expected from 3.6 % beer. Roasted flavor, slightly caramelly - very dunkel-like brew. Oily mouthfeel giving sort of low alcohol feeling.

Half pint, cask version hand pulled at Dove Street Inn, Ipswich. See-through, dark brown body with only some dimples at the surface. Toffee-like aroma. The flavour is dominated by soft caramel sweetness offset by hints of apples. Flat palate, but still a rather well made Mild ale (04.05.2008).

[cask from Back of Beyond, Reading] Interesting one this - a golden-coloured ale, initially floral with a hint of smoke. Then one of those dusty stable type of hops flavours. Slight hint of citrus and rather bitter in the aftertaste, but overall not bad.
