330 ml bottle, vintage 2019, Cardinal Pub & Bar, Stavanger. ABV is 11.0%. Matured in whisky barrels. Pitch black colour, small but lasting tan head. Aroma of roast malts, whisky and oak, hints of lactose and vanilla. Very sweet flavour (too much lactose), with the same elements, also notes of chocolate and decent bittering hops.

Bottle. Black body with a huge, creamy pale beige head that lasts longer than the standard unbarreled version. Quite lively carbonation keeps the head alive for a while. Lovely aroma, dark malt, wood, smooth warming alcohol where the candy sugar seems to become more in the background compared with the standard version, hint of dry fruit and spices. Flavor is sweet, dark malt, distinct warming alcohol, light wood impression, candy sugar, caramel and Belgium yeast. Perfect balancing body with a long and rather complex aftertaste. A really nice belgium quad with lots of complexity, could be compared with some of the barrel aged Trappist beers. The barrel and oak has really made a big difference from the regular version in this case.

Bottle @ Patricks. Clear dark amber body with a nice, dense, lasing beige head. Aroma has mild roasted malt, hint of coffee, wood and some warming alcohol. Flavor is super smooth, medium sweet, mild roasted malt, coffee, dry fruit , wood, hint of vanilla, medium sweet milk chokolate and warming alcohol. Fine body and loooong lasting aftertaste. Very nice and smooth sipper, the lactose part is not exaggerated, it just makes a very nice balance to alcohol and bitterness. Rich in flavor with enough complexity to make a mess, but made with a brilliant balance close to pefection. A little bit more bitterness would have madet this perfect.

Bottle. An unclear dark orange-golden colored beer topped by a finger-thick off-white head. Fruity, lightly piney aroma with some yeast notes and pale malts. Some orange too. It's medium bodied, nicely carbonated, like a hefeweiss more or less, with a nice bitterness. The flavor don't have the orange found in the aroma, else it's pretty much the same generic fruityness, pine cones and a touch of yeast. Medium length finish. A decent one, nothing special going on, no flaws either. None expected by the way. 190614
