Description
Independently owned, Essex based brewery “Other Monkey Brewing” started production in March 2016, in the basement of Three Wise Monkeys Colchester with a focus on brewing exceptional traditional ales and unique, award-winning craft beers.

Since the creation of Other Monkey Brewing in 2016, we have consistently created a range of award-winning craft beers and traditional ales which have been provided to a variety of venues based around Essex and Suffolk including Three Wise Monkeys, Twisters Bar, V Bar, The Odd One Out and a selection of festivals.

Fast forward to 2022, we welcome the latest evolution of Other Monkey Brewing. Located proudly on St Nicholas Street, just off Colchester High Street, our brewery opened .

30/11/2019. Draught at Three Wise Monkeys, Ipswich. Pours cloudy dark amber pink with a small white head. Aroma of sweet cherries, berries, vanilla, perfume, pastry and cream. Moderate sweetness, light bitterness, medium sour. Moderate body, slight oily and watery texture, average carbonation.

30/11/2019. Draught at the Three Wise Monkeys, Ipswich. Pours hazy yellow gold with a small white head. Aroma of hops, grapefruit, cream, flowers, malt. Moderate sweetness and medium bitterness. Moderate body, slight creamy texture, soft carbonation. Nice bitter finish.

22/10/2019. Draught at the Three Wise Monkeys, Ipswich. Pours hazy/cloudy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, mango, passion fruit and flowers. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness, light tart edge. Moderate body, slight watery texture, average to soft carbonation.

Cask at Colchester Beer Festival. Black with a tan head Light smoke, black coffee, a touch of ash. Very dry. A hint of freeze-dried raspberries in the aftertaste was unusual and nice. Possibly too dry for me though.

24/4/2019. Keg at Three Wise Monkeys, Ipswich. Pours hazy dark gold with a small white head. Aroma of mango, pineapple, citrus and malt. Medium sweetness and bitterness. Moderate body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Fruity. Nice.

29/3/2019. Draught at Three Wise Monkeys, Ipswich. Pours almost black with a lasting creamy tan coloured head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate, roasted malt, dried fruit, vanilla and lactose. Light to moderate sweetness, medium to heavy roasted bitterness. Medium body, smooth texture, fine carbonation. Roasted bitter coffee finish. Nice brew, very good for its modest abv.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2018, day one, 04/12/18. Hazed golden orange with a decent off white covering. Nose is mellow citric peel, straw, tangerine, melon. Taste comprises orange peel, quite sweet, airy malts, grains, hint of bread, sugars. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close. So so affair.

Cask gravity at the pigs ear beer festival 2018. A hazed golden yellow coloured pour with a a halo of fine white head. Aroma is rubber, hockey puck, green veg stalks, dirty grains. Flavour is semi sweet, nwttle, phenols, grassy hop, light sulphur. Palate is semi sweet, dank,, moderate carbonation.. Ok.

Cask at Pigs Ear 2018 - London. Day 1. Pours lightly hazy gold with a frothy white head. A bit flinty and sulphurous, has some pale grains and lemon peel. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry finish, with grassy bitterness, lemon rind, more flinty minerals. So so.
