Description

Bottle @ home. Slightly unclear red to red-brown color, small off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweetness, brown malts, some dark candy sugar and a distant hop bitter in the background. Ok body, medium carbonation.

Bottle @ home. Clear yellow to golden color, medium sized white head that lasts for a decent while. Smell and taste some malts, European hops, a hint of yeast, lightly bitter. Typical Belgian blond. Nothing wrong with it, nothing really interesting either. Decent beer.

Bottle at home . Pours rather unclear blonde . Good white head . Smell is not intense. Some maltyness . Taste is typically tripel . Dry ( from the sugar , yet not sweet ) , bitter, very sharp maltyness . Overcarbonated ( sigh ) , Dry and tad sweet finish . OK , but nothing else than 90 % of the tripels I’ve tasted before ...

Tasted as Toria Tripel in 2009 and as Toria Tripel US in 2010, the latter having been intended for export to the States in very limited quantities; according to Ratebeer both are the same thing, but I thought the US version was hoppier (I’ll verify with the brewer if this is true). Anyway, I’ll do this rating about that US version since I tasted it more recently than the regular. The notes I made at the time, at the Nationale Bierhappening of Zottegem, go as follows: off-white, sticky head, ochre blonde colour with somewhat greenish hue, hazy. Aroma of green apple and grapefruit, yoghurt, pepper, cider and quite some oily, grassy and citrussy hoppiness. Soft fruity taste (apple), mellow malt sweet background, spicy hoppiness coming up quickly and spreading into the back of the mouth and throat, citrussy and peppery and long lasting.

Tasted in the original Alvinne version when it was just launched onto the market, in 2008. Creamy, off-white head over a warm ’old gold’ coloured beer; soft malty aroma, peach, pineapple, citrus peel, yeasty and spicy touches; fruity onset, fresh sparkles, refreshing, smooth with sourish accent and mild bitterish finish. Decent example of the ’blond’ Belgian ale style.

Tripel since 2008 with creamy, yellowish white, pretty thick head and deep orange blonde, practically amber colour, hazy. Fruity and caramelly aroma, apricot, pear, pineapple, honey, cinnamon, grass, orange peel. Sweetish fruity onset, citrus touch, soft caramel malts, light honeyish touch, soft herbal hoppiness in the finish. Not bad but forgettable.

Dark medium-strength top fermented Belgian, so in that respect a dubbel, with light beige head and bronze colour. Malty, nutty, dates, pear, clear and honest, bit straightforward, with slight toasted bitterness in the finish. Not bad for a first product.
