Can, thanks Brian! Pours clear reddish hazel, medium beige head, good lacing. Aroma is pleasantly roasty, nutty, hints of toffee and coffee grounds. Flavor is light sweet, light plus bitter. Medium body, creamy mouthfeel. Solid brown ale.

Can at the RateBeer DC April Fool’s Tasting. Thanks Alejandro! Clear dark brownish color. Aromas of malt, whiskey, caramel. Tastes of caramel, whiskey, malt, wheat. Light body with a dry finish.

16oz can at the April Fools Day DC Ratebeer tasting. Thanks to noodleuser. Poured a caramel amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was light roast, light sweet malts. Smooth, light toffee. Light. Light alcohol. Pleasant.

[1/29/17] Bottle/Can/Crowler/Growler at the RateBeer award ceremony bottle share at Flamingo Hotel in Santa Rosa. Golden. Resinous stale hops. Sweetish, bitter finish.

Expensive 16oz can pours with a slightly hazy copper body that has thin gold edges and supports a light tan head of foam. The aroma offers up lots of sweet sugary berry notes, some berry skin like tartness and then mild soft sweet smelling malts. The taste delivers sweet malts and sweet berries rimmed thinly by berry fruit tartness. To midway it gets into more sugary malts and a bit of sweet doughy notes as well as berry juice that has a tart edge to it. Decent but on the sweet side and the juicy berry notes over shadow the beer notes.

$10.99 can (19.2oz) pours with a nice dark body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up chocolate, some vanilla, soft smooth whiskey (somehow it’s smooth) and then a sweetened dark roastiness off in the background. The taste delivers smooth chocolate blended with fairly smooth and nearly soft whiskey notes that has a pleasing sweetness to it. It becomes slightly boozy to midway amid a woody spiciness, vanilla and sweetened dark roasted malts. This attains a tasty barrel treatment to beer flavor balance. Pretty darn nice. That said the base beer could be a bit more rich and deep to stand up to the whiskey that’s going on here.

A: Clear vibrant gold with over a finger of foam. Splendid bit of lacing.
S: Smells grassy, of grapefruit and orange peel, caramel malt, tropical fruits but only when I take deep long whiffs.
T: Balanced taste. Orange peel and caramel mostly. Grapefruit I get near and through the finish; that’s where it is most bitter and shakes off the balance.
I don’t get much of a tropical fruit flavour from first sip, mid palate or finish.
M: Nice mouthfeel and very drinkable.
O: This is a very good and easy drinking APA. Cheers to Upslope.
