[2/18/23] Draught at the Moeder Lambic Fontainas. Black. Great rich dark chocolate, some coffee, roast, sweet and a bit umami, bitter finish, alcohol, full-bodied, thick. Very well-made.

A golden and slightly hazy beer, a head is small and white. Aroma has lots of grapes, white wine, some barrel. Taste has white wine and grapes, some sourness. Medium bodied. Too much wine there.

750ml bottle. Minimally milky, yellow-ish, golden colour with small, frothy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, white head. Woody and vinous fruity, yeasty spicy aroma, notes of oak, white grapes, some black pepper. Taste is dry, woody, vinous fruity and slightly yeasty spicy, mildly bitter, grassy hoppy, light fruit acidic tartness, notes of oak, white grapes, white wine, subtle residual sweetness with a touch of grape sugar, a minimally mineral touch. Watery texture with an oily strand, dry, simultaneously minimally greasy palate, medium, prickly carbonation. Well balanced, mild, homogeneous - very nice.

Baltic porter flavoured with coffee from this interesting French craft brewery, bottle shared with Bart. Pale greyish beige, membrane-lacing, moussy but slowly breaking head, black robe with hazy burgundy edges. Aroma of very prominent coffee (espresso), cigar ashes, unsugared black chocolate, dried blackcurrants, charcoal, burnt cake, moist toast, dried prunes, black olive, dust, old coffee filters. Rounded, sweetish onset, dried prunes and figs but low in esters, sourish edge of roasted grains, very light black olive-like umami touch; medium carb, smooth oily body. Quite thick roasted-walnutty and black-toasty middle with an ashy and ‘dusty’ edge, leafy hops, hints of tobacco and black pepper but obviously coffee as well (though notably less pronounced than the nose suggests); sourish-bitter roastiness prevails, with a soft glow of gin-like alcohol. Relatively ‘basic’ compared with what e.g. Põhjala and other Estonians did with this style, but technically well made, with the added coffee well integrated. Tasty.

30/XI/22 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ Zythos class, BB: n/a (2022-1709)

Pretty clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: lots and lots of coffee, green coffee, green bell peppers, some charcoal, hint of caramel, dusty impression. MF: soft carbon, medium to full body, creamy texture. Taste: coffee, lots of coffee, also some cocoa powder, very dark chocolate, strong bitterness, deep roast. Aftertaste: sourish, a little sweet, caramel, peppery, coffee, coffee grit, very dry and bitter finish. Not my cup of tea. ;-)

Light, fruity, a bit dry. White wine, dry barrel, some florals, dried stone fruit. Subtle but surprisingly nuanced, very nice.

Smooth mild fruity sour. Slightly grainy, easy to drink with a nice bitterness. Fruity in the end,slightly sourish with a fruity sour grainy finish.

Veits kaunane ja mehune kraam. Okish.

Left. Restrained nose, only faint cherry. Lots of sour cherries, juicy, lite body and a rather short finish.
