Purchased a 4-pack of the newbie at the LCBO. Pours a clean golden-amber colour with a frothy off-white head that lasts a while and gives out lots of dirty lace. Big fresh hoppy nose with grapefruit and pine needles present, but better balanced with the sweet malt and alcohol. The alcohol though, does not burn anywhere, just barely warming up the throat. Nice smooth bitterness, again, all well-blended between the hop and malt grain for flavours. A really beautiful Imperial IPA that is well-rounded, without having anything stick out too much.

A hazed amber ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a nice biscuit malt with pungent floral hops, smooth and pleasant. In mouth, a smooth fruity malt with pungent grassy hops, orange pulp, nice and smooth. Cask at Beau’s Oktoberfest Sept 29 2012.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Ariel’s place. Thanks Rotem. Clear deep golden. Aroma of floral and "green" hops and a bit of malt. Flavor has a bit of malt sweetness and nice lingering hoppy bitterness. Medium-bodied.

Canette 473ml. De couleur dorée-ambrée et claire. Nez de houblon citrique, légèrement résineux et qux notes florales, fruité (agrumes, moyen de fruits tropicaux sucrés), léger de grains de malt avec des notes de caramel. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas et une texture moyennement crémeuse et légèrement huileuse. Goût amer de houblon citrique (pamplemousse), légèrement terreux et aux faibles notes résineuses (une amertume présente toute la gorgée) accompagné d’un goût fruité (agrumes, léger-moyen de fruits tropicaux) et de quelques traces de fumée de cigarette lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût de grains de malt légèrement sucrés et quelques traces de biscuits puis en finale l’aertume revient en force en affichant un caractère à la fois asséchant, légèrement résineux et herbeux. Post-goût long et plutôt sec, moyen-amer de houblon citrique, légèrement résineux et aux notes herbeuses et terreuses avec un goût fruité (zeste d’agrumes).

Bouteille 750ml (vintage 2012). De couleur dorée foncée et claire. Nez de levures fruitées (agrumes, notes de bananes, traces de petits fruits) et épicées, moyen de grains de céréales et de houblon floral et herbeux (herbes fraîches) ainsi que des notes de sucre candi. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen-bas ainsi qu’une texture légèrement huileuse et aux faibles notes crémeuses. Goût de levures fruitées (agrumes, notes de petits fruits sucrés aux faibles traces acides) et moyennement épicées (poivre doux, léger de coriandre, notes de clou de girofle) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un moyen goût de pain frais avec un léger goût de céréales fraîches et de sucre candi puis en finale l’on retrouve une légère-moyenne amertume de houblon floral et moyennement herbeux (herbes fraîches, faibles traces de thé). Post-goût moyen, léger-moyen amer de houblon floral et herbeux avec un goût de levures fruitées (zeste d’agrumes).

(On draught at Bryden’s, Toronto, Sept 16 2012) Poured a darkish orange with a slight haze and a moderately sized, creamy lingering white head that left lacing. Once it warmed a bit, fairly aromatic with citrus notes, pine resin and a bit of tropical fruit over caramel notes from crystal malts. The palate followed the nose in terms of flavour, with some moderate malt sweetness and reasonably juicy fruit giving way to a fairly dry and bitter hoppy finish, but not bracingly so for the IBU rating. Alcohol was quite well-hidden, with just a little heat when the beer was warm. Body fairly full, carbonation relatively soft. This was an impressively well-balanced DIPA, good hop aromatics, neither a sugar bomb nor an overly piney mess. Very drinkable, would gladly have again.

CASK: A murky brown ale with a thin off white head. In aroma, a sweet musty malt with light spices and wild grass. In mouth, a sweet smooth herbal malt with fruity notes, chocolate, licorice, interesting. On cask Ottawa Cask Fest, August 12, 2012.
