A golden Belgian ale with a thin lacing white head. In aroma, strong sweet candy sugar, with phenolic character, orange peels, light spices. In mouth, a sweet malt with candy sugar, orange peels, licorice, herbs, very smooth and oily. On tap at Arrow and Loon, May 2 2012.

A lightly hazed golden amber IPA with a thin big bubbled off white head. In aroma, a sweet caramel malt with faint herbal hops. In mouth, a nice grassy hops over biscuit malt, nice and smooth, menthol notes, nice. Cask at Ontario Cask IPA Challenge, April 21, 2012.

This IPA poured a cloudy yellow colour with a frothy, off white head. To the nose there are scents of pineapple, grapefruit and lemon citrus. A whole hell of alot of citrus. First sip was a punch in the face with hops. First taste almost tasted like hard grapefruit juice with a splash of pineapple. A little dough flavour and lemon grass thrown in. Finish is bitter with lemon flavours lingering.

Originally rated August 2004. Poured a deep amber colour with a beautiful creamy beige head that settled quickly. Left a small amount of lacing. Smelt malty with hints of molasse and tuna (yes... tuna - I know that does not sound pleasant, but it did not ruin the nose). The flavour was matly caramel / coffee with a smooth bitter start and a dry finish. Beats the hell out of Newcastle’s english brown ale.

smells soapy, a little detergent. Color is amber clear lager style water look. High carbonation, taste had inkling of bitterness that gives it a little credit. The Beer Store 500ml can ($2.65): Pours a golden colour with a white head. Aroma is amber malt pretty much, along with some sugar. Taste is amber malt, along with a bit of sugar. Minimal hops. Very sessionable and it leaves a sweet aftertaste. Not so bad.

The Beer Store 500ml can ($2.65): Pours a dark brown color with a tannish head. Aroma is mostly roasted malt. Taste is a little bit sweet. Finish is not so great; it is a little metallic and watery. A tiny bit of hops are present. Mostly just malty. Feels kind of light. Ok.

Canada six-pack: Pours a rather light colour for an IPA, with a moderate white head. Aroma is citrus, but it has a strong malt backbone readily apparent there. Excellent hop profile in the taste. Not particularly bitter or extreme by any stretch, but very well crafted. There are no errors in this beer, just flavourful and easy drinking IPA. The fruitiness makes it a nice stand-out.

I can taste a touch of chocolate and I guess there is some hint of cranberry but the overall product lacks substance. I feel like if any of the elements were amped up a bit more this would make for a better brew. As it stands, the beer still comes on with good character, especially on cask with an aroma of cacao and the lightest little fruity sourness which comes from the cranberry. I avoided buying the 750 ml bottle of this forever because it was so overpriced at the lcbo ($11) and finally found it on cask at Castro’s Lounge.
