Description
Sullivan’s Brewing Company opened for business over three hundred years ago in The Maltings on James’s Street, smack bang in the middle of Kilkenny City. After Sullivan’s Brewery closed for the final time in the early 1900s the tales of the good deeds of this Sullivan Family began to fade into memory.
The Smithwick Family in partnership with direct descendants of the Sullivan Family had a vision to re-open the once-great brewery in the city where it all began. They enlisted the help of Ian Hamilton, one of Ireland’s most eminent contemporary master-brewers. Together they are bringing artisan brewing back to Kilkenny. If people thought that brewing in Kilkenny was dead and buried, they are in for a rude awakening…
Brewed at Dundalk Bay. Some small batch beers brewed in the taproom.

18/X/25 - 50cl bottle @ BBGG Fall ‘25 (home), BB: n/a, ink has been smudged, lot nr starts with L24 so I’m going to assume it’s a 2024 bottle (2025-1046) Thanks to minutemat for sharing the bottle!
Clear red brown beer, small creamy off-white irregular head, a little stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, hay, cow fodder, rural, barnyard. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, pretty hoppy, grains, hay, cow fodder, some caramel, more hops, ok, not great. Aftertaste: very malty, dry, bitter, grains, not too bad but this doesn’t excite me very much.

Bouteille 50cl à Belgian Summer Beer Gathering, merci Matt.
BB?

500ml bottle from Noz. Pours a clear gold, large frothy white head. Quite a malty flavour profile, doesn't especially jump out as a lager malt profile, brisk bitterness, good drinkability. Ok.

440 ml can, as Sullivan's Maltings Irish Ale, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. ABV is 5.0%. Dark cola to mahogany colour, moderate off-white to beige head. Aroma of brown malts, hints of prunes and red wine. Distinctly malty flavour, not too sweet, notes of dark bread, hints of burnt breadcrumbs and prunes. Very moderate but noticeable bittering hops in the finish. .

Tap at Barbeerian, Zagreb, Croatia. Pours amber, fairly transparent, with fine whitish foam. Aroma is malty, caramel. Body is slightly above average, a little sticky, with limited carbonation. Taste is medium sweet, with just a little bit of toasty bitterness. Final is average.

Pours amber with a big light beige head. Smells of toasted caramel malt. The malty flavor is all about the caramel and to me it’s toastier than most examples of this style. Some mild herbal hops provides balance. This works well and is malty but not overly sweet.
