Cask, gravity at Merton Winter Beer Festival 6th and 7th Feb 2009 Pours dark, dark brown with a light beige head, aroma is full in yer face chocolate and vanilla. This beer divided opinion like no other the ’marmite’ beer at this years festival, some people even suggesting that it was the sort of thing that should be poured over a rhubarb crumble and it nodded to the dessert stakes and not the beer arena. Taste was just so chocolatey and the vanilla actually overtook the chocolate with loads of really big streaks of vanila pods and cornish ice cream. I couldn’t drink much of this but what I did drink I liked. A8 A4 F7 P3 OV13 3.5

Cask handpump at The Thomas Beckett, Canterbury. Copper thin beige head. OK condition. It’s a decent bitter, good malts and hop, don’t get me wrong, but I’ve drunk excellent beer all day. Decent bitter, some white pepper hop

500ml bottle at The Rake courtesy of MagicDave6. Ruby, thin white head. It’s a bit syrupy, some red fruits. Not a great, even slightly farty aroma. Syrupy fruits in the mouth. In fact, too syrupy for me.

Cask Conditioned at J.D. Wetherspoon - The Pommelers Rest, London
Black color. It has a mild aroma of chocolate malts. The flavor mixes very wel chocolate malts, some caramel (to bring in a light sweetness) and light roasted malt; there is a touch of cookies too; very harmonious and balanced. Really good.

Bottle. Presumably ruby-amber coloured, literally pitch-black with a tanned lacy head, sticking to the glass. Dry roast-malty nose with some fruity undertones. Moderate dry bitter flavour, light to medium bodied. Lingering, dry roasted-bitter finish with hints of cacao. Good stuff............
