Cask at Sun, Stafford. Pours very dark reddish-brown with a small tan head and good lacing. There’s roast malts and dark fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is initially fleshy red cherries and alcoholic strength that catch the attention, But quickly these are replaced by dried wrinkled dark cherries. Later you notice the slight underlying sweetness. Finish is decidedly dry and quite boozy. This is very nice – but to be sipped slowly !

Bottle. Black with shades of red and an ok white beige head. Aroma of plums and black currants. Taste of roasted malts, plums, fruit dragees, black currants and hints of chocolate. Sour-ish, juicy and fruity. Moderate bitterness. Low carbonation. Well it is what it is but a tad too fruity for me.

Cask at Wheatsheaf, Stoke on Trent. Pours a slightly hazy golden copper with a small off-white head. There’s malts and autumn fruits in the aroma. In the mouth it is juicy and somewhere between sweet and bitter though a little watery. Flavour has malts, apples and some traditional hops. Later there are hints of nuts and strawberries leading to a slightly fruity finish. It’s reasonable.
