33cl bottle; BB Mar 2021. Found and drank in de Bierboom, Brugge on 30th Jan 2020. Amber body, slight haze, off-white topping. Citrus leanings in both the nose and flavour, decent malt content also complimented the bittering hops, mild herbal twist in there too.

0.33 l bottle from 'Sterk Avondverkoop', best before February 2021. Slightly hazy, deep amber with a medium large, frothy, almost stable, off-white head. Sweetish, gently fruity-resiny aroma of orange jam, pine candy. Gently sweet, moderately bitter, fairly resiny, gently fruity and a little herbal taste of orange jam, pine, candy and a touch of ginger, followed by a medium long, quite bitter, rather herbal-resiny, gently grassy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly creamy mouthfeel, average carbonation. Interesting IPA, fairly old school and quite herbal.

Bottle at De Paas. Bit hazy deep amber with beige head. Sweet caramel, toffee, peach, light grapefruit and pine. Over medium sweet and medium bitter. Over medium bodied. Quite OK and drinkeable beer, not a particularly good IPA though.

Collaboration of two trappist breweries - the first one ever, to my knowledge, it seems these new trappist breweries are well aware of the fact that collabs are a common feature of the craft beer culture. Brewed at Tre Fontane, the Italian trappist brewery best known for its namesake eucalyptus tripel, with the assistance of the monks of Spencer in America. Very mousy, irregularly edged, eggshell-white, medium thick, slowly thinning but otherwise very stable head, hazy orangey peach blonde with pale cognac tinge, shifting to a deeper misty peach with sediment. Aroma of pink grapefruit, unripe peach, stewing sweet shallots, biscuit cake, fried apple, dried mango cubes, green olives, a very vague hint of diesel, peanut oil, lychee, apricot, soggy sandwiches, banana, cloves, pink pepper, wet clay. Fruity onset, green banana, ripe apricot and light red apple impressions, fizzy carb but in a refined, non-harsh way fit for an IPA, light green olive and grapefruit accents from the start, supple, bit 'fluffy' and slightly oily body. Round, soft biscuity and bready malt core with some lingering sweet fruity notes on top, light minerally aspects here and there until indeed a firm, pink-grapefruity and peppery hoppiness sets in, resinous and long-stretching, with fruity notes retronasally (lychee, blood orange) though not going into full force and remaining altogether contained. The actual bitterness is, however, quite long, dry and rooty, more so than in e.g. Spencer's own IPA. Herbal and fruity aspects linger alongside this drying, oily hop bitterness. Soft core with quite a robust, old school hop character thrown into it: this is, in spite of the Belgian yeastiness pushing in quite expressive sweet-fruity esters and spicy phenols, much better than expected, if a bit obsolete in this day and age. Pleasantly modern hoppy ale, in any case - now for a collab between the old Belgian trappists and one of these 'young dogs' in the trappist world, perhaps? I'm silently betting that the guy who runs the Achel brand would not be entirely against this idea, for instance...

9/XII/19 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ home, BB: III/2021 - (2019-2133)

Clear orange beer, small creamy irregular off-white head, stable, bit adhesive. Aroma: fruity, some tropical fruits, caramel, bit spicy, resinous, more sweet ripe tropical fruits, honey, bit oxidized. MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, some tropical fruits, nice bitterness, little chemical, dry. Aftertaste: very bitter, resinous, hoppy, very dry, bit of hay, grassy, little fruity, soft oxidation, more tropical fruits, old school West Coast IPA, nice one!

Thick, lightly yellow head over fully hazy amber-orange beer. End of bottle solid yeast. Nice citrus nose, bit suggesting oil. Lots of hops, and something extra (the eucalyptus?), fragrant. Bitter, wry, pretty serious hoponslaught, empowered by the tart eucalyptus. Bit metallic, or chewing on laurel leaf. Slight astringency (again...?). Quite slick, oily, not too well-bodied, good carbonation. Wàààày better than the ordinary Tre Fontane. Actually, might well be the best from both breweries.
