12 ounce bottle. Opaque black color. Brief beige head. Rich roasted malt aroma has a boozy sweet oatmeal note. Tangy roasted malt flavor has hints of cocoa and earthy coffee notes. Bold and rich with dark malt flavors. Chewy, dark dried fruit finish.

Draught @ Ginger Ma. Bright and clear yellow with large off-white creamy head, honey aroma, high carbonation, delicious honey taste, abrupt finish. Very good Helles!

A: Hard pour yields a 1 finger pillowy tan head atop a tawny amber clear body. Head retains and laces well. S: Subdued hops and toast with a sweet fruit note. T: A tart, fruity hop bite on first sip is quite pronounced. Unexpected (strange?) but OK. A little pine resin. Malts fairly nondescript save for a bit of roast flavor on the finish. M: Fine bead carbonation is very nice. A bit of hop chewiness also makes things interesting. Not enough to save this ale from mediocrity. O: Interesting take on whatever style this is supposed to be. Red ale/Pale ale? I don’t think the flavors meld very well together to create any complete "whole". Disjointed? I like Stoudt’s pils. Won’t buy this again.

Brown bottle into pilsner glass. A: Lightly golden brightish yellow with a good finger of jagged, well lasting head. Decent lacing. Carbonation seems to lesson quite a bit after a couple minutes. S: Definite bready malts with a spicy note that I attribute to the hops but maybe sort of toasty too. T: Much like the smell but the spicy hop character is much more fleshed out. The heavy bread/toast flavor has not died out though, creating a balance that I find both unusual and pleasant. There is a bottom note that I do not get in the nose, Which I’ll say is pleasantly surprising. M: Light as expected, but surprisingly "there" with a slight bitter oiliness that turns dry at the finish. Carbonation is a bit light but certainly passable. O: Impressive! This is what I’ve been enjoying finding in the pilsner style. Straight simple and refreshing. Quite distinctive beer but not much to overcomplicate or muck up the taste. Refreshing as hell but way too good for the lawnmower! Too bad this is so expensive at $12/6 or I’d buy it regularly.

Going with batch #4 despite no labeling to that effect. The beer pours a slightly cloudy copper color with a medium foamy white head that recedes gradually. Sticky strings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of citrus, hops and malt. Medium-bodied with flavors of herbal hops, citrus and caramel malt. The finish is moderately bitter with a fruity hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

750ml bottle I picked up a few years back at the brewery during the night of my buddy’s wedding. Pours a murky, ruby amber with some thin, eggshell head. Nose has wood pulp, red grape, some vinegar, soured malt, some blood orange. Flavor follows along, mild vinegar, mild tart fruit, blood orange, unripened pear, cedar notes, a little cleaning fluid. Oily, tart finish. This seems to be either peaking or on the back end.
