Description
Holy Goat is a Dundee based brewery specialising in the production of mixed- fermentation and wood aged beers.

Mixed fermentation refers to the use of unconventional yeasts and bacteria in brewing, which allows production of beers with unique character. We are driven by experimentation and are obsessed with the awesome flavours which can be achieved from mixed-culture fermentations.

Inspired by tradition mixed fermentation beer styles we seek to pay hommage to our brewing forbears, using new techniques, fermentation styles and the highest quality ingredients to produce complex, interesting and (most importantly) tasty beer!

The breweries name references the tongue-in-cheek description of the ‘goat’ like qualities of wild yeast (Brettanomyces) characteristics. A reverence to this yeast and to the beers which display these characteristics is a strong part of the identity of the brewery.

Hail the goat!

Can. Near clear amber beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, smooth, mildly dry, decent fine minerally carbonation on the back end. Light malts, touches of creamy sweetness and caramel. Trad West Coast peely citrus, pleasingly bright and juicy here. Orange, mandarin and tangerine. Cooling pine and a very mild hop spice nip on the close. A fairly bright and breezy West Coaster. Goes down with great ease!

On tap at Ebenezers, Crewe. Pours a cloudy (almost murky) golden orange with minimal off-white head. The aroma is sharp with pineapple. In the mouth it is the strong but juicy sharpness that swamps everything. Flavours are oranges mango and pineapple. These are all fairly strong but I can’t detect any other underlying flavours. Some bitterness in the finish. Not a bad beer at all – but I’m way outside my comfort zone !

Can via the online shop. Looks well. Misted ruby copper kind of colour. Lovely thick almost fully lacing, leggy beige foam. Nose has fruity toffee and caramel. A bit plummy. Some raisin. Taste is pretty sweet in a ripe fruit way, with some esters and a soft citrus bitterness. Smooth and lightly boozy with soft carbonation. Sweet and light bitter finish. Nice one. Sank it.

440ml can @ Benzai's Anti-Carnival Valentine's Day Tasting, Feb 26. Porus a slightly unclear amber, pure white head. Lovely, not creamy as expected from the name.. just a nice hoppy West Coast with an accompanying malty sweet base and a nod to more exotic climes hop-wise.

Bottle from Drinkmonger. Hazy amber body with a beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of cranberry and funky yeast. Flavour of bitter lemon and sour cranberry with a light earthiness. Medium body with a smooth texture. Light fizz. This is very sharp and acidic.

Draught @ Dead Crafty, Liverpool. Pours a generally clear deep gold, white head. Nicely bitter west coast.. prefer more chewy piney caramelised malt but it's generally ok
