Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

It pours a very dark brown, murky brown, with an inch of tannish foam. Superb lacing.

Lots of brown sugar, caramel malt, and some grain in the nose. Oh, I do believe that I am sensing some Port like aromas. Hell, yes I do.

Yikes, the taste almost reaches the heights of the super good and style specific smells.

Caramel malt and brown sugar sweet notes dominate but fall far below the "this is too sweet" category. There are definitely some chocolate, perhaps of the semi sweet kind going on that add just a touch of bitterness. The Port I mentioned in the smell is there but a bit muted.

Close to full bodied without being cloying.

It might just be me but I find this Eisbock a rare and wonderful treat. Try it if you see it. PROST!

Bottle [from Euro Swap 2015/1 thanks to Sebilinz] @ home. Dark brown color with a nice red glare coming through, average to beige head. Aroma is malts, sweet, caramel, sweet dark fruits. Taste malts, sweet, a nice sweetness which I can’t really describe, caramel, dark fruits. Hard to describe but pretty damn nice! Good body and carbonation as well. Very good, total surprise to me but really nice!

A pale gold brew with more than enough foam and lots of flakes. Best after 2014 on the label.

Smell is sweet ish, vegetal, earthy.

Tastes like the above only with more of a vegetal almost rotten vegetable flavour. Has some semblance to a helles Bock but imho, the glory days, if it had one, are long gone.

Decent mouthfeel.

Not something I would ever drink again. Enough said

(Bottle, 0.33 l, at HBF2015) The beer poured amber and clear. Its head was small and white. Aroma had malts, booze and molasses. Palate was full bodied and warming with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, sweetness, booze, molasses, more booze and bitterness. Aftertaste was boozy, sweet and bitter. A boozy and malty thing which may be a beer

Tap at Camba Bavaria. Dark red with a tall, fine head. Almost black. Nose of caramel, toffee, a bit oxidized. Somewhat burnt and estery flavor, lots of caramel, bread. Rather sweet and milky, and a bit too oxidized.

On tap at Känguruh Pub. Hazy, golden colour with a fantastic white head. Aroma is malts and grains with fresh, citrusy hops. Taste is medium sweet with grassy hops, light yeast and fruits. Very refreshing.
