Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

750 ml bottle shared by Sebilinz at RB Tasting Vienna March Edition. Thanks!
Dark yellow, hazy body, with almost no head.
Aroma of sweat, curry, honey, some citrus fruits.
Taste with similar aromas, but not that much sweat notes and more spices and some sweet malts.
Quite light mouthfeel, with a low carbonation.
Finishes spicy, sour-fruity, a bit dry.
Once again a very unique sour beer from Hofstetten, but this is my least favourite of them. The nose is pretty hard to enjoy, just smells too much of sweat for me. Also feels unbalanced overall, this combination doesn’t work in my opinion, the Honigbock Wildbrett worked way better.

bottle from trade with Sebilinz. fruity smell, orange, alcohlic, citric, malty backbone. full body, quite a lot of sweetness, very soft carbonation, very nice mouthfeel, some fruity taste, mango, sweet grapefruit, honey, molasses, alcoholic, but alcohlic hidden very well within all the sweetness, alcoholic warming. quite strong, smooth drinking for the ABV. quite good ice bock with some dry hopping, a bit too sweet, would be interesting to see this after a couple years.

Bottle. Aroma tangerine, citrusy, resiny. Tempting. Intense. Almost clear orange colour. Taste is initially nicely sweet honeyish caramelly malty. The bitterness actually barely makes it on scene. The flavours are here though, citrusy, zesty, tangerine. Very good. Alcohol completely hidden.

Bottle. Aroma brocolli, grass, fertilizer, sweaty. Almost clear yellow colour. Taste is honeyish, malty honeyish and lots of weird sweaty vegetables. Not really my kind of beer.

330 ml bottle from Bottle Shop, Salzburg.
Beautiful honey like, copper, clear body, with a quickly dissipating, small, beige head.
Somehow weird aroma of frizzante, toothpaste, honey, some citrus, some berries.
Tastes of bitter-sweet honey, nuts, citrus, grass, some metallic notes, slight frizzante again.
Quite light, oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation.
Finishes bitter-sweet, quite dry, with honey, citrus, pine and a slight alcohol warmth.
Interesting. Not much beer character left, with a very unique nose and a honey dominated taste. Alcohol is well hidden. Overall not what I expected, nor a beer I would often drink, but interesting nonetheless.

Bottle @ home. Hazy red color, average sized off-white head. Smell and taste malts, sweet, dried fruits and caramel. Average body, a bit fizzy carbonation.

750 ml bottle from Ammersin 5, Vienna.
Dark amber, brownish, hazy body, with a medium, creamy, beige head.
Sour, fruity aroma, with Brett, apples, berries, lemongrass, dried fruits, red wine, barrel notes, subtle sweet dark malts.
Taste with lots of dry red wine barrel notes, Brett, sour fruits, overall very dry.
Medium, slck to oily mouthfeel, with a low carbonation.
Finishes dry, sour, tart, with long-lasting barrel notes.
Tasty! The nose is really great, complex. The taste doesn’t fully live up in my opinion, not as complex as the nose, while the red wine barrel notes are very nice. The base beer isn’t recognisable at all. Unfortunately this is very expensive, so I don’t think I’ll have this again, as much as I enjoyed it.
