Description
In 1449, Urbar von Wallsee first mentioned a brewery in Hofstetten. This is the oldest record we have of a brewery at this location, and it is a date that has granted us a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the Oldest Brewery in Austria. The tavern/brewery has been in the hands of the Krammer Family since 1847. Now in our fifth generation, we still proudly combine hops and malt daily to make the beautiful product of beer.

500 mL bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a very dark red color with a medium head. Average head retention and fair lacing. Aroma of caramel, toffee, light toast, banana, citrus. Taste is toasted malts, banana, faint grassy hops, caramel and a touch of alcohol. Medium bodied, crisp. Fairly pleasant.

500 mL bottle from Beer Run in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a slightly hazy orange color with a medium head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma is slightly toasted bread with lots of fruity notes. Something slightly odd and spicy lingers in the background. Taste is bready, very spicy... with anise, cinnamon, pepper and juniper notes. Fairly dry. Medium bodied.

500ml bottle. Deep brown/ruby-red colot with a beige head. Sweet, yet slightly odd aroma. It really makes no sense to classify this as Heller Bock, as it is darker than a typical Dunkle. The taste is sweet and malty, with raisin, toffee, and caramel notes. Smooth and rich, with some pleasant Bocky pungencies. I’m sure they think this is the best Bock in the world back in St. Martin, but it is pretty average and standard..in a good way. Nice and pleasant drinker, with lots of Olde World character.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is flowery with seom herbal hops and a bit of honey. Flavor is kinda a let down. Lots of wet paper bag dominate everything. Some malts do come through but not enough to save this one. It turns into a boring lager real fast.

Pour is an almost black with a small tan head. Aroma is is a very nice caramel with earthyness. Flavor is some dark rich malts then the raision juice hits you. Finish has some more dark fruits hitting you then a bit of earthy malts. This is a damn fine example of the style and to think the only reason i picked this up was b/c it was kinda on the cheaper side.

Bottled(500ml). -Slight hazy yellow coloured, medium sized white head, mild fruity grassy nose. Mild lemony, grassy and mild hoppy with few fruity hints. A bit too watery, average brew.

07/04 0.5 l bottle courtesy of ogivlado, thanks for sharing! It poured a very little hazy, lighter yellow body with medium sized head. Fine aroma, some herbal and flowery hops, touch of malt in vanilla form. A bit lemony and grassy flavor, overall bitter. Unfortunately, it’s thin bodied and a bit foul and one-dimensional. Shorter finish, but pretty OK otherwise, reflecting the lemony flavor. Fine, but expected better from the nose.

0.5l bottle shared with heavy and ogivlado, courtesy of the latter (thanks!). Poured a hazy yellow-golden body with a thick medium white head that went away slowly. Fine fruity anf flowery nose, some honey. Light taste, flowery, slightly lemony, dryish, chalky yeastiness, light hoppy bitterness, light soapy fruitiness. An eggy note that doesn’t fit but is quite noticable. Not as tasty as the nose would indicate but a nice zwickl.

long neck bottle (330ml). -Nice clear amber coloured, medium sized white head, dry honey caramel nose. Toasted malt, grainy and quite dry herbal taste with chestnut and almond notes in the finish. Wrong style maybe, closer to Vienna.

Tap at Trappez,Athens GA. Amazing brewing process. They actually heat white granite block until their are burning hot and drop them in the mash to flash caramelize the sugar. This beer is insanely tasty. Pours a ruby/deep brown with a thick beige/mocha head. Nice light golden lacing is present throughout. Aroma was superbly fresh, loaded with dark fruits, grains for a typical bock nose. Taste of thick dark fruits with a good addition of caramel candi sugar. Also noted some light chocolate malts. This is a bock in all its glory.
