Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

Draft at Beer Run. Pours a dark rust color with a thin creamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, burnt sugar, mild banana. The taste is caramel, burnt sugar, banana, mild earthy hops. Medium bodied, low carbonation, decent balance.

Sampled at GABF 2013. Pours a gold with some spitty, white head. Nose is mild, wood, yam, spice, all mild. Flavor is sweet, spicy, booze. A little odd.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a thin frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of big whiskey notes, vanilla, apples, other mild fruits, booze. The taste is big whiskey notes, wood, pale malt, vanilla and an herbal finish. Medium bodied, hot, and the barrel character strips out most of the base beer’s character.

Draft at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber color with a large foamy tan head. Good head retention. Aroma of caramel, stone fruits, bready malts, mild booziness. The taste is caramel, stone fruits, spice, citrus. Medium bodied, slightly disjointed, faintly boozy.

On draft at trio on OBX it us a clear golden bubbly beer with a slight head it has a citrus flavor and the taste is reminiscent of grapefruit
