About
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

Chocolate covered cherries aroma with light bourbon notes. Black, thin tan head. Sour cherry and charcoal flavor. Ashy finish. Nice breakfast beer. Pairs well with eggs benedict.

Bottle thanks to Andy! Pours black with a grayish brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a strong roasted malt note with some bitter chocolate a hint of coffee and a bourbon backing. Flavor starts with dark grains that grow in roasted malts and has a boozy bourbon finish.

Bottle thanks to Andy! Pours a clear amber with a grayish head that lasts throughout the beer. Aroma has earthy grains and grass with a bit of green apple, bourbon and a bit of a metallic note. Flavor starts with light grass and sweet grains but finish has some bourbon and vanilla.

Split a 750ml Barrel House label bottle. Poured a hazy golden color with a light, mostly white head. aroma was wheat, some clove and spice notes, a touch of banana. Flavor was some spice, banana, cloves, and plenty of wheat. Decent.

750ml bottle pours a watery, opaque black with some lacing beige head. Nose isn’t great, stale coffee, raisin, chile. Flavor is a little better, cola, chocolate, raisins, prickly, ancho chile. Full, sweet finish.

750ml bottle. This one poured a slightly cloudy color with a white head. Aroma is a touch of brown sugar, with some dried fruits and yeasty characters. Flavor is pretty darn enjoyable. Dried fruits, yeast notes. I liked.

Draft at the brewpub on 1/19/2013. Poured a hazy color with a small off-white head. Aroma was some spice notes, with some dark fruits, caramel. Flavor was some funky notes, with caramel, dark fruits, touch of bitterness to it. Pretty enjoyable.

Draft at the brewpub on 1/19/2013. Poured a light copper color, nice slightly off-white head. Aroma was a lot more barrel than either hop or malt characters. Flavor is some vanilla oak notes, with some woody notes, touch of light hops in there.
