Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

Bottled 500ml. -from Heiloo Getränke Leipzig, shared with Marko & Hrabren. Pale golden coloured, medium sized white head, herbal and light grainy nose. Herbal, grainy, light bready and dry bitter finish. Watery as well.

0.5l bottle Ogi brought from Heiloo Leipzig. Clear golden body, off-white head. Some herbal hops and minerally notes at first, some honeyish maltiness after. Dry, bitter, astringent minerally, yeasty, rustical taste, some herbal hops, maybe vaguely floral, dry and bitter finish. Ah yeah, definitely a North German pils, just one that's dried out even more than normal but without quality hop payoff, but hey, less sugar.

0.5 l bottle shared with Ogi and Marko, thanks. Clear golden, small off-white head. Slightly rough herbal hop aroma, some citrus, some grain. Light body, moderate carbonation. Thin, lean herbal and malty bready flavour. Bitterness is light but harsh, finishes dry.

Bottle. Clear dark gold with an ok white head. Aroma of grains and earthy hops. Taste of grains, straw and bread. Slightly spicy. Rather strong and lasting grainy bitterness. Medium to strong carbonation. Well, yeah yadda yadda.

Notes from 5/17/19. On tap regularly at DSK after a longtime stint of...(place beer here). Liter mug. Cola body, cola head. Scent is mostly malt, appropriate hops & a fun tannic, mineralistic middle end. Taste is dry, very dry toast, bitter burnt crust, yeasty haze, mellow unsweetened adult cerealness. Chewy, if thin body. It's just a good beer. I forget what was on tap prior, but that was a touch better. This, however, has grown on me.

Clear golden amber with a bubbly white head and soft, sweet malt on the nose. Sherbet-like mouthfeel with subtle, dusty dark fruit and sweet malt flavours, a little kick of bitterness and a slightly dry finish
