As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. Clean, light golden-yellow colour with a frothy white cap, good stay and some nice, thick creamyish lacing. Some good maltiness in the nose with a yeasty touch, some fresh herbal hoppiness and a tad spiciness. Kind of a silky mouthfeel with soft dryness in the end. Fresh hops in the taste, herbal again, over the cereal malts. Quite a refreshing, nicely hopped Pils with a nice blend of maltiness.

0.5l bottle from D&S, Dresden, expired a couple of weeks before (28.12.2025), sold at full price sadly. Hazy dark amber body, off-white head. Resinous, orange jelly and heaps of oxidation in the aroma, mildly woody. Lean, dry taste, citric, raisins, floral, smooth, strong bitterish finish. Clearly gone, oxidized, but respectable for a macro take at the style. WIll hopefully rerate.

This Pils poured a slightly hazy, light yellow colour with a bright white, creamy head. Nice lacing. Scents include corn, cooked veggies, honey, and a little straw. First swig was crisp and clean with flavours of malt, corn, light hops and a little must. Finish is mildly hoppy bitter with corn flavours lingering.
