Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

# 3564; 4/2023. Bready and herbal aroma. Clear amber body; off-white head. Bready, caramel, herbal. It appears to me more like wiener lager than kellerbier. Very good amber-colored lager. 0,5 l, bottle, supermarket, Tübingen (Swabia, Germany).

10/1/2013. Tap at Farringdon Tap with Gus. Pours very dark brown with a creamy off-white to beige head. Nice roasted, chocolatey, dark fruit aroma. Quite enjoyed it to begin with but it had an odd sourness develop which wasn't so nice.
