As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

0,5 can. Nice clean golden yellow color, white, pleasant head, relatively long-lasting. Malty sweetish, lager aroma without any aftertaste, with little hops, but a little floral. Clean-German sipping sensation, medium body. Sweet, flavorful base, with good carbonation. Interesting floral, light, special, delicate hopping. Nice and delicious pilsner from a better-known brewery. Well done, recommended, and not that expensive!

Szép tiszta aranysárga szín, fehér, tetszetős hab, viszonylag tartós is.

On tap at the Standard. Pours a clear copper with a near white head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has lots of grass with straw and bread backing. Flavor is pine forward with grass, straw and bread supporting.

Appearance: Cloudy amber with a large and stable off-white head. Aroma: Biscuits, grapefruit, resin, floral notes. Taste: Light to medium sweet, medium to heavy bitter. grapefruit, pine needles, biscuit malt, floral notes. Lingering hoppy ending. So is the aftertaste. Mouth feel: Medium body, soft carbonation. Summary: Absolutely alright. Call it when you once hear the Macro-Germans aren't able to make a proper IPA.

500 ml can. Hazy amber orange pour. Creamy beige head is substantial. Earthy, toasted malt aroma hints at blood orange, dried apricot and red grapefruit. Very hoppy to the point of becoming astringent. Some resiny pine in the dank finish. Not what I was expecting.

0,5 l can. Nearly black in the glass, reddish edges, two finger beige head. Sweet malty on the nose, little bit roasty. Taste ist more on the roasty side, less sweetness, grainy, some bitter hop. Below average carbonated. Nice stuff.
