Description
As the “Köstritzer Erbschenke” the Köstritzer black beer brewery is first mentioned in 1543, making it one of the oldest breweries in Germany. In 1948, the brewery became a "Volkseigener Betrieb" after the state of Thuringia had expropriated it. In 1991 the Köstritzer Schwarzbierbrauerei became part of the Bitburger Group and within a few years it has grown into one of the most modern and largest breweries in Thuringia.

Bottle from Beers Of Europe. Pours almost black (cola colour) with a large thick creamy beige head. Aromas of caramel, dark fruit, burnt brown bread and brown sugar. Taste is more of the same again with roasted malts, nuts, a touch of chocolate and a fairly sweet finish. Thinnish body with average carbonation. Good beer

Bottle from Erzengel - Cheers! 🍻🍻. Large foamy white head left a creamy top on an unclear amber body. Malt, toffee & spiced aroma. Medium bodied, soft over the tongue with tingly crisp back. Sweet malt, spiced fruit, toffee, grain & berry tastes with nicely bitter finish. Lovely Quaffer

Didn’t realize this was a “mix” Bier even though it says so. 60% Schwarzbier, giving the cherry Radler addition a deeper richness. Good beer made for beer haters. 2.9% ABV, so kid-friendly too.

0.5 l bottle from local 'Penny', best before February 2022. Almost clear, deep amber with a medium large, frothy, slowly diminishing, white head. Sweetish-malty, slightly musty aroma of grains, caramel and some honey. Quite sweet, malty, moderately bitter, a little grassy-spicy taste of caramel, grains, honey and some nuts, followed by a short, gently bitter, a bit grassy-spicy finish. Medium body, smooth and slightly effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant, inoffense Lager. Rather sweet but still quaffable.
