Description
Way back in 1986, before craft brewing was even cool, Summit Brewing Company Founder and President Mark Stutrud set out in St. Paul, Minnesota, to make craft beers inspired by old-world brewing traditions and ingredients. More than 30 years have passed since he first brewed our flagship Summit Extra Pale Ale, and it’s safe to say he freaking nailed it.

Today, Summit Brewing continues to infuse traditional recipes with modern ingredients from around the world, crafting high-quality and consistent craft beer out of respect for the hardworking folks who enjoy our beer.

And because we’re independently owned and operated, we get to make craft beer our way. That means relying on natural carbonation, protecting the foam, and celebrating the true dance between malts, hops, water, and yeast. It means protecting the environment, supporting the community and the arts, being kind to animals, and always having one more beer with our friends and family even if we’re already late for rotary club. It means drinking our beer fresh and cold, because warm storage turns good beer to shit. And it means never settling for “good enough,” always pulling the goalie when we’ve got a chance to win, swinging for the fences, and never, ever forgetting where we come from. Grain country represent.

Cask at GBBF. Pours jet black with no head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee and vanilla. Taste is a chocolate and vanilla sweet hit that lingers on with some coffee and molasses. Nice carbonation. Not too bad.

Vanilla edition. Cask gravity at GBBF. It pours black with a small beige head. The aroma is earthy, toasty, coffee grounds, light vanilla and coffee cake. The taste is smooth, toasty, cocoa, rock road, coffee grounds, light vanilla, charred wood and ash with a soft finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Pretty OK, but no game changer.

Rated this about a week ago on tap at an Applebee’s in Grand Forks, ND. Pours clear golden with a thick bone white head with great retention and lace. Taste is lightly bitter with faint candy sweetness. Flavors of citrus, melon, pepper. Aroma is faint, but I get citrus peel, faint grain. Smooth and easy drinking. Tasty.

Tap at Summit. Served in a tulip. Cloudy orange color, it looks great. Some peach and banana in the aroma, just a hint of smoke. Low on smoke actually, it should have a lot more. Sweet peach in the flavor, as well as clove and the generally sweet flavor of a wheat beer.

An okay Vienna lager but not quite as toasty/roasty in the Finish as I would prefer personally. Very smooth easy drinking but not a huge amount of character.

At the brewery. Orange-copper color. some haze, not opaque but not quite clear. Low carbonation and not much head, some lacing. Aroma of a weizen yeast. A little sweet, followed by dry malt flavor and lightly bitter hops. Some banana and clove. Solid as a session beer.

Can. This beer is lighter in color than i expected, more gold than the amber color of so many bitters.Light noble hop aroma. Dry in the flavor where the malt is out front, as it should be. A mineral quality here. Moderately well hopped in the flavor, i taste the hops more than smell them in this beer. Not as amazing as the keller pils, but a solid session beer.

Can. Pours a clear yellow gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of flora and sweet grains with some light fruits and a bit of Belgian yeast. Flavor has sweet grains and flora with light fruits and a decent amount of Belgian yeast.
