About
Pretty Things Beer & Ale Project began on a shoestring budget in 2008. We exist to allow 20 year professional brewer Dann Paquette to make an honest living while giving his imagination free reign. We brew our beers in other people's breweries because we can't afford our own. We enjoy the up-at-dawn lifestyle and the freedom to brew beers of our own imagining. We brew all our beers ourselves: Dann brews and formulates, Martha mills in. We dream up our beers together, inspired by Europe, by history, and by BEER and all it can be. We are based in Somerville, but brew mostly in Westport, MA, hence the early mornings. Cheers!

Pours gold with a large white head.Nose shows herbal and citrus notes, sweet honey and saison yeast. Very inviting.Very similar flavours; more honey, saison yeast, herbal/spicy hops and some grapefruit/orange peel. An assertive bitterness presents itself in the finish.Great moderately high carbonation works perfectly.

Sweet malty beer, but in a good way. Sugary and fruity, with some nice spices.

@zebf 2014 - Clear brown appearance. Aroma is boozy, sweet and reminds me of fruity cake. It’s a very sweet beer but remains palatable.

22 oz. bottle from One Stop Market Haverhill, MA. Guess the color? Yep, dark murky brown with last white head retention. Aroma is right on point, roasted nuts, caramel/toffee with some fruity hops. Traces of earthy malt.

Upfront the flavor is sweet and malty with hints of earthy tones. Raisins and light nutty notes are in the main base with the finish showing roasted malts and a tad of bitterness. Bitterness is needed for the generous amount of malts. The body is thin but the brewer intended for an older recipe, so no problems there. Overall I don’t drink as many brown ale’s as I used to. They just don’t offer much complexity. However, as far as this brown ale goes; Pretty Things does a great job with a classic style. Balanced real well and I drank the 22 oz. myself with ease.

Pours black into a snifter. Mocha head with good retention pancakes and recedes leaving scant trailing sheets. Soy, licorice, chocolate and dark pit fruit aromas. Thick with hot chocolate and soy upfront turning to licorice before the lasting espresso finish.

75cl bottle @ the 3rd Shrewsbury Bottle Share March 2014, courtesy of Paulo. I think this was the only beer we could all agree was fantastic. Complex, earthy barley wine with some strong alcohol and some lovely dark fruits. Great stuff, and my first from this brewery.
