Half pour (cask) at the Briar Rose. Dark brown, light coming through, small skin of head. Light roasty aroma, tadte too. Lighter than the norm for a stout, almost porter. Cask makes for a nice feel.

500ml bottle. Pours black i guess, small foamy tan head. Light on the palette with very light dark malt, cola, distant lactic notes and some interesting, light smoky woody tobacco notes emerging alongside a dry finish. Carbonation seems a little firmer than necessary though not off-putting. Nice, light milk stout.

Bottle, 4.1%, from my beloved students of c19 - thank you, Sweethearts and Hombres! Pours clear dark amber with stable beige head. Clear aroma of malt, with notes of fruit and caramel and touches of yeast. Bitter, hoppy onset, giving way to sweetish notes of malt and fruit and touches of yeast. Hints of peat, especially in the rather bitter (and mildly estery) aftertaste. Easy to drink and rather decent for the style.

500ml bottle [courtesy of Grumbo, cheers mate!]. Clear, dark amber colour with average, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Sweet-ish, malty and fruity aroma, hints of caramel, notes of red apple, baked apple, a touch of tomato purée. Taste is sweet-ish fruity and malty, slightly dry hoppy, hints of caramel, a nuttily touch, notes of red apple, baked apple, leafy, hoppy overtones, mild bitterness. Very clean - good.

Clear amber beer, thin bubbly head. Smell is dry, bitter malt and not a hell of a lot else. Flavour is bitter malt, some hop, a bit of fruit, caramel. There's not a hell of a lot to it but as this sort of archetypal bitter go it's got a reasonably clear flavour, nothing unpleasant lurking in the backtaste and low enough strength that you could enjoy a few without any bother.

Bottle shared on the train. Thanks to Welsh Daniel! Pours clear goldbwith a foamy, white head. The nose has some nice pale malts, hints of citrus, pale grains, dough. Light sweet flavourbwith hints of hay, white grapes, straw. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Finishes with rounded pale bread, a little dough, low bitterness. Not bad.
