Bottle at home in London - thanks to a colleague for gifting me this one! Pours a rather fetching clear russet with a creamy, light tan foam head. Rich malty aroma, with perhaps hints of oxidation, some ripe fruits, berries, suggestions of caramel. Light to medium sweet flavor, with well toasted malts, grainy bread, bitter earth and leaves, impressions of cocoa, some leathery berries. Light bodied with average carbonation. Reasonably well balanced on the finish, with more toasted grains and leaves, dried fruits, berries. A very decent bitter.

Keg from Growler Beers - a 30th birthday gift. Clear amber body with a faint off-white head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of copper, tea, earth and grass. Flavour of dusty hops, dirt and musty citrus. Thin body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. A decent beer with a light, hoppy finish.

500ml bottle. Quasi black colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Roasty dark malty, fruity and herbal aroma, notes of dark berries and corresponding shrubs, hints of salty ashes. Taste is roasty dark malty, salty, very subtle sweetness, notes of coffee, roasted barley. Good.

Cask at The Cairngorm Hotel. Clear ruby body with a thin off-white head. Light lacing. Aroma of toast and charred wood. Flavour of chocolate, toffee, ash, grass and caramel. Medium body with a slick, oily mouthfeel. Well balanced and ashy. I prefer Wildcat.

Cask at Steak Club, Aviemore. Clear amber body with a thin white head. Excellent lacing. Aroma of caramel, nuts and fig. Flavour of toffee and sweet malts. Medium body with a creamy texture. Really drinkable.

Bottle at Inverness airport. It pours clear deep brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, wood, brown bread, cereal and light toffee/fudge. The taste is bitter-sweet, brown bread, toffee, Scottish tablet, wood, leather, light spice and earth with a drying finish. Medium body and moderate. Solid malty action.

The taste is bitter-sweet, malt driven, toasty grain, brown bread, nut, wood and light caramel with a dry finish. Medium body and average carbonation. Well rounded and very drinkable malty beer.
