Description
Taybeh Brewing Company is a family owned business established in 1994 following the Oslo Peace Agreement (1993) when David Khoury and Nadim Khoury were inspired by their late father, Canaan David Khoury (1926-2002) to return to their home village of Taybeh after spending more than twenty years in the United States and establish the first micro brewery in the Middle East.

The goal was to invest and boost the local economy by introducing new styles of natural hand crafted micro-brewed beers according to the German Purity Law with no preservatives or additives making an excellent Palestinian beer while creating a nationalistic feeling. Nadim Khoury turned his hobby of making homemade beer during college days into a career becoming the master brewer. He is very proud to pass this passion and experience to his daughter, Madees Khoury, the only female brewer in Palestine.

33cl bottle from Ambrosetti. Pours pale yellow with a small, white head. Slightly skunky aroma with grain, hints of sour green apples and cooked vegetables and hints of grass. Medium sweet with some slightly strange sour notes and a very light bitterness. Watery and not much flavour, but would imagine it would taste better on a hot day. Drinkable, but not much more.

Bottle shared by Cuso. Aroma brett, fruity. Very dark colour. Taste is not unlike sour beers, fruits. As a sour spontaneously fermented beer this could pass pretty well. I rate it as such.

Bottle from Beer Market, Tel Aviv, July 2013. (my first one from Palestine) Clear golden with a white head. The aroma was a bit stale with boiled vegetables and bread. Similar taste and some notes of metal and corn. Not a tasty one.

Bottle at the GJBF Osaka. The first beer of the day. It pours a classic gold color with a decent aroma. The flavor is a blond ale but slightly more grainy than I am used to. Decent but kind of average.

Bottle at the GJBF Osaka. More of an amber than a dark color, though maybe a smidge darker than their amber. The flavor has the same kind of skunkiness to it as the amber I had though not as strong. I think they are using some smoke malts. It is quite bitter, not so well done. Their golden is their best but even that is average.
