Description
Brixton Brewery is one of London’s established craft breweries, making beer in the heart of one of London’s most colourful and famous neighbourhoods. We were founded in 2013 by two local couples, Jez and Libby and Mike and Xochitl, but our shared passion for beer started years before that, when we met in the old Hive Bar (now Craft Beer Co. Brixton), and bonded over newborn babies, and a dream of opening a brewery. We reckoned that every great neighbourhood deserves a great brewery, and we wanted to bring one to Brixton.

In 2017 Brixton Brewery announced the biggest news in its short history. That it had partnered with Heineken UK in a deal that would enable the business to open a second site in Brixton, boost capacity nearly tenfold from its 3,000hl site to up to 30,000hl, and significantly grow its team as a result.

As per 2021, Brixton is 100% owned by Heineken.

Brixton now only carry out small-scale brewing. Production brewing moved to Beavertown in September 2024.

Bottle sample at a tasting a at Beer Market Jaffa. Thanks Tom C. Cloudy yellow-golden. Lovely fruity hops aroma with a bit of yeast. Dry flavor with lots of "green" and fruity hops and nice refreshing bitterness. Rather light-bodied. Really good and extremely refreshing.

Cask at Craft 100, CBC Clapham, 03/04/14. Reddish amber with a good sized light beige covering that dissipates to a swirl and edgework. Nose is biscuit crumble, caramel, hops, red berry fruits, light pine, toasted bread. Taste comprises bramble and red berry fruits, caramel malt, biscuit tones. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with subtle bitterness. Ok for style.

Craft100 fest at Craft Clapham. Vibrant red - amber beer, good bubbly pale tan head. Palate is light and semi dry. Mild fine carbonation. Tangy fruits, little red berries before mild dark fruits. Light herby spice. More tangy fruits and a little cherry before a semi dry finish. Spicy linger. Decent.

Tap at Craft 100. It pours clear deep red with a small beige head. The nose is earth, pine, varnish, candied citrus, lemon peel and caramel. The taste is tangy/almost sour fruits, candied citrus peel, decent bitterness, earth and a touch of spice with a dry finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Easy-going and smooth. Interesting, but I would return to it in a hurry.

Bottle at home in London - picked up from Market Row Wines. Pours lightly misty, pale yellow-gold with a thick, tight and creamy white head that really hangs on. The aroma has a bit of pleasing citrus fruits at first but when you dig a bit deeper you get some hay and plastic. The flavor is lightly sweet with quick citrus, a bit of pale bread, lemon, bitter plastic and grass. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Lightly astringent to finish with further bitter plastic, a bit of juicy lemon and tangerine. The plastic notes - could be due to chlorophenols, I suppose - do detract from the beer, which is a shame because otherwise this would be a very pleasant APA.

Bottle at home after a long day at work picked up from Sourced Market. Dark black with ruby red hues in the light. Pretty clear. Nice big tan head that fades to a thin cap. Aroma is smokey ashy roast, chalk, berries and some soapy notes. Later some hot alcohol acetone aromas develop. Flavour is ionitially some nice berry fruits, then harsh chalky mineral and even harsher ashy bitter roast Palate is thin and minerally. Some hot alcohol in fkavour as well. Pretty disappointing.
