About
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.

Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

bottle from The Beer Store in Warsaw.

Tap, LKBW. Clear golden, medium white head, ok lasting. Bready nose, not much hoppy notes. Mild bitterness, mild aftertaste. Light. Classic nice lager.

330ml bottle. Minimally milky, redd-ish, amber colour with average to huge, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Mellow malty and slightly fruity and grassy-spicy, hoppy aroma, hints of orchard fruit (berries, yellow stone fruit, pear, apple), some dried fruit (red berries, prunes). Taste is slightly bitter, grassy-spicy and minimally fruity hoppy, pale and minimally caramel malty, almost without residual sweetness, weak hints of orchard fruit. Watery texture, smooth and soft palate, fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Not the most intense, but a considerable number of fruity flavours in the aroma, sadly not reappearing in equal mode in taste; clean, balanced - not bad.

Tap, Lajbah. Pale, milky yellow, hazy, solid white head. Mild soury nose, a bit of wheat and ham, some spices and a bit of citrus fruits. Mildly bitter, spicy and minty, pretty nice. Fresh and light. Not the best, but ok.

Disparate rim over hazy copper-ochre beer. Quite smoked nose, almost Islay-like. Not much else in the nose, but for some faint rhubarb. Sourish, light smoke. Rauchmalz, but more discreet than in the nose. There is fruitiness, but again, discreet. Pretty slick, good carbonation. Nice aftertaste that amalgamates all the former. The best in this beer is that smoke, acidity and fruit have reached balance - something which is hard to do in my experience with these ingredients. Txs to Joren for bringing!

Lucky find for Eisbock #20 for me. Dark brown almost black pour maybe a hint of reddish. Some head. Nose thick molasses. Tastes of fig, dates, rum, brown sugar, earth, plum, brandy and soy sauce. Chewy mouthfeel. Pleasant sipper.

The thirteenth of twenty beers for our 10th wedding anniversary. Ajrín's. Bottle 0.33l, two and half years aged. Lightly cloudy, copper colored. AROMA- pleasantly smoky, sweet fruity, lots of plums, dark grapes, strawberries. FLAVOR- smooth, slightly sweet, lightly bitter, strawberry, plum, lightly smoky, cherry, red currant. Medium to fuller bodied. Very good.
