About
Craft beer in its purest form is what Sebastian Sauer, the head behind Freigeist beer culture, produces. Sebastian is known among experts as one of the first craft beer brewers in Germany. True or not, he's a veteran in the craft beer scene and an expert who is second to none. It's not for nothing that his beers are more popular than any other German beer in the USA, the home of craft beer.

Free spirit beer culture is conquering the craft beer world with the salvation of old, long-forgotten beer styles. Sebastian reads himself into the matter until he has found out all the ingredients of the original recipe and the subtleties and secrets of the old brewing style. With this knowledge, he then ponders how the beer would be brewed these days and what ingredients would be used. He doesn't want to bring old camels out of grandma's handbag to the light of day, but rather to transport the beers of the past with skill and expertise into the present. His beers are therefore not just reproductions of old recipes, but rather modern new editions. With this concept, the brewery has made a good name for itself in the craft beer scene and attracted international attention.

Bottle 33cl. @home poured into a stem pilsner glass. Unclear amber brown colour, fair frothy beige head, good retention and lacing. Aroma roasted malt, overripe apples, smokey, caramel. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, grain, caramel, overripe apples, some roast. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, malty sweetbitter aftertaste, harsh bitterish impression, metallic notes, atypical alt, mixed feeling as it has an unfinished feel, okay.

2/1/2023. Bottle courtesy of Boris, cheers. He knows I love Eisbocks. But this one not so much. Pours unclear dark brown with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of ripe strawberries, booze, malt, caramel, light herb. Medium sweetness, light bitterness. Quite full bodied, sticky, average carbonation. Big heartburn finish. Hard work.

330 ml bottle. Murky dark brown with a small foamy head. Metal, rust, roasted malt, smoke, dry hops, lemon juice. Dry metallic bitterness. Light bodied, oily watery texture, soft carbonated, dry metallic bitter finish. Weird with a rather unpleasant aftertaste.

330 ml bottle. Unclear amber. Aroma of smoked plums and smoked dried apricots, lactic acid, lemon juice, sour cabbage. Dry sourness, umami. Light bodied, oily watery texture, lively carbonated, dry sour smoky finish. Quite nice and unusual, the smoked peaches definitely make the difference, otherwise it would be another average sour ale.

Bright clear gold beer, tidy bubbly pale cream colour head. Fairly smooth but fairly dry palate, modest fine carbonation. Fairly thin but dry sweet malts, a thin creamy malts. A nicely fruity vibe with which the fennel blends well. A modest salinity. Light dry finish. A bit flat and sweet for a Gose but the core flavour is fine.
