Description
In the hands of the Bosteels family for over 200 years, the brewery relies today on the craftmanship of seven generations. In 1791, Jean-Baptist Bosteels established the brewery, and has been followed by generations who took over the brewery with zeal and never stop brewing even during the world wars. At that time, the brewery played such an important role in the town, the family Bosteels was such influential people that we are not surprised that 3 on the 7 generations have been Town Mayors.
In the 1930’s Antoine Bosteels, 5th generation, carried on the brewing dynasty and played an important role expanding the sales of the Bosteels Pils into other regions such as Ghent, Antwerp and Brussels. His son Ivo Bosteels honored the iconic beer of Pauwel Kwak by bringing it back to the market in 1980; this is the beginning of the strong beers for the Brewery Bosteels. In the year 1990, Ivo’s son, Antoine Bosteels, the 7th generation, understood the potential of the strong beers and especially the trend for the blond ones. Driven by passion of the art of brewing and guided by his creativity, Antoine is at the roots of the Tripel Karmeliet and the DeuS Brut des Flandres.
It was announced in 2016 that the brewery would be taken over by beer giant AB InBev, however Antoine Bosteels will remain chairman of the Board of Directors and will also remain operationally involved to ensure business continuity. In addition, the brewing activities will remain based in Buggenhout.

Belgian Happiness provided this 33 cl uniquely shaped bottle not so long ago. I will drink out of my Deliriuim snifter this evening, just because. With a pour I see a dark mahogany colored liquid finished by a skim of silvery foam that benefits from ongoing carbonation. The scent is of very ripe fruit and candy. And the taste is a bit different for the style but interesting enough. Quite sweet initially, grain, overly ripe plums, sweet malt, syrup, a touch of red wine, wood and a bit of vanilla. I think the flavor improves as the beer warms up. Glad to have a sampling, likely one and done even though I'm a fan of the style.

Pours clear, lager-like blonde, pale. Fluffy white stable head. Scent is weak, generic blonde, medium expressed on the BE yeast, appart from the lack of intensity or originality, nothing straight up offensive. Taste is sweet, too damn sweet - what happened? Unfermented maltsyrup poured into a BE blonde, it seems. Starts off robustly biter but quickly gets overtaken by the sweetness. Banana from the yeast, but it seems more fabricated, somehow. Not straight up bad, if i'm being honest, but a sweetness that is clearly made for a big brainless audience rather than the taster . Fairly high carbo, but hey, its the style. Medium body. OK

330ml bottle from Saveur Biere Advent Calendar - Hazy old gold body, ring of white foam for a top. Nose is barley sugar, caramel, a bit of burnt cornflake. Taste has an orangey oil thing going on, Earl Grey tea. Decent enough spicy amber.

Bottle on 8th March 2023 from Carrefour, Brussels. Clear golden amber with shallow white foam and spot lacing. Spiced hoppiness in aroma. Citrus, grasses and spices in-mouth and a finish of maltiness with ripe sweet berry fruits. Full bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.

Helder donkergeel bier met mooie stevige schuimkraag. Smaak is licht bitter en een beetje fruitig zoet met iets van zuurtjes, wat citrus en sinaasappel. Gewoon een heel goed bier.

Tap at Beer & Food Attraction 2023, in Rimini, Italy. Pours classic blonde, transparent, with medium grained white foam. Aroma is intensely malty, alcoholic, caramel. Body is pretty dense, sticky, with good carbonation. Taste is overly sweet. Final is average.
