EE#19 Black Sumthin S6L5T6F2O16 Interesting friendly stoutish leathery mild ale aromas. Big creamy head, stands strong. Leathery aroma carries thru to the flavors. Unique. Respectable carbonation for a beer as dark as this. As expected, this is a mild and pleasant brew. Over all, just a grand dark session beer. Possesses the right amount of personality to keep it from being exceedingly serene.

EE#17 S7L5T8F3O17 dry stout - One of Scott’s East End fine session brews. Sampled at the brewery and from a growler. Fastidious roasty aroma, just the right amount of olfactory. Fine-looking blackish pour with a classy creamy head. One of the best looking beers from a growler in recent history. Kind friendly taste leaves hidden burnt wood sensations persistent on the palate. Good carbonation for a mild ale of this nature. Well mannered and easy going. Great stuff from a session beer expert, enjoyable. Will drink another of this. Leaves me content. One of the best cheap dark session beers Ive ever had!

S6L3F2T4O9 From growler and poured into a big clear 24 oz heavy glass mug. I filled the growler yesterday at the EE brewery. Cloudy for a lager, makes this very interesting, optically. Comes across as nearly flat on the palate. Taste has plenty of personality for a lager. If I didn’t know better, I’d say this was ale. It is really ale-ish. A lager an ale lover will love. Most macro lagers are designed to keep outttah yer face, this is not. It regularly lets you know that it is in your mouth. More persona than most lager lovers will tolerate. Interestingly, I think I detect some higher alky macro-brew attributes, which could be good or bad, depending on your attitudes toward macro lagers. Smooth, yes but not totally qualifying as a session-able brew, heheheh, I’m a little off my sharpness by now. In summary, moderately diverse when compared to any other ‘lager’ I‘ve tasted. An ale like lager with plenty of that EE attitude in there. Overall, pretty strong.

Sample at the Columbus Ratebeer gathering at ogglethorp’s 11/20/08: Bottle #778, not sure to which bird that corresponds. The beer pours a copper-amber color with a thin and creamy off-white head that recedes slowly. Top ring of lacing with spots underneath. Malt, floral hops and fruit in the nose. Rich body with flavors of caramel and sweet malt, fruits and hops. The finish is malty with notes of candi sugar and a light hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Yes, Ok but how ugly? Clean aroma with a unique trippel volatile olfactory. Big flip top bottle and a really cool logo! Cloudy like a darker hefe and it has a tea frot head. Barely any carbonation. Oily initial middle tongue palate. Rude and rather crude. Not many manners like the belgie cousins but certainly lots of hop bitterness. On style; if on style means lots of hops on top of a belgie tripple. That is if, there is a tripple IPA style, heheheh. Overall rather strong and may I say pretty ugly in an American kind of way. Remains medicinally bitter thru the session. Some hints of wet farmy hay in the background. Whisky bitter at times. Get a little dizzy near the end of bottle. This is an ugly ale, what else can be said? Wew, way too much for this lager session lover! However, if you really like hoppy beers or tripels, ignore my numbers and go for it!, I rate on how much I like it, not by style.

On tap at the brewery. A British mild ale I’m told. Tan looking and quite cloudy, love those unfiltered beers. has an old wood heady aroma. Tho there are said to be little hops in this, it does have a bitter building sensation which does not hide. Gamely flavor and fairly creamy. Bitterness continues to build thru the session but it never gets over the top, its controlled and quite pleasing, interesting citrus or something flavors during the beginning and in the body of the taste. I say citrus for lack of a better pointed taste description and it’s something pointed alright. Finish lingers for a while. Building mild medicinal rises to a medium level on the back of the throat.

I filled this growler yesterday at the brewery. It has a big thick layer of sediment on the bottom, certainly not filtered and I like it cloudy that way. Pour is the same, a thick swirling cloudy almost chunky opague brown. No head but on the second fill I get a thin head. On the third pour it foams over onto the counter. Some black cherry aroma but mostly a tart olfactory prevails. Initially on the palate it seems a little bitter but thats because I am sensitive to higher alky brews. For 7+% it hides its alky content well and has the feeling of better more refined dubbels from belgie. Much better than most coarse american dubbels. Very nice creamy texture on the tongue and I like those tingly sparkling sensations. Even tho it is a little strong for me as a session brew, it remains refreshing and interesting none the less. Not sure if I can taste cherries at this moment but it is tasty and fun. The only thing I don’t really care for is the strength of this brew’s personality. It comes across like the cherry grizzette but with balls. I really like most of the session brews from EE but this one may perhaps have a bit more personality than I care for. Very enjoyable and different. Would be perfect if it was a little less alky but it wouldn’t be a dubbel then would it? Come to think of it, in the second and third glass I think I’m getting some cherry or fruit in there now. Dizzying effect. Yep, cherry grizzette on steriods. Finish is a tad medicinal but most of you will love this one, go for it before its gone, thanks Scott! Another unique beer from an exceptional local nano brewery.

Huge gratitude to tpd975 for bringing this 2006 vintage goodie along. Awesome. Also a big thanks to East End Brewing for making this delicious beer. Please make this again.
It has the most interesting bottle labeling approach I’ve ever seen. It appears to be shrink wrapped with brown paper like the bottle has a paper skin. Pours somewhat hazy deep copper with impressive tan head for the style. The aroma is bold and inviting with solid dark fruity esters of prunes, figs, dates and a layer of yum followed by near grainy malty sweetness. A big draw brings the expected bit of hotness to the nose. The taste starts sweet and malty with a mild pulse of pine hops. Way more malty sweet than bittering hops. The fruity esters soon surface and grow to midway and carry into the finish with notes of prunes, muted yet ripe cherries, sugar stewed raisins, figs and plums. Wow, very enjoyable. Some mild alcohol sits on the tongue into the after taste and provides a bit of warming.

2006. Murky amber. Chewy aroma with lots of bubblegum, peach and hints of banana. Light, somewhat vibrant body, nice fruitiness and hints of chewy crystal malt. Big and pretty well-balanced.

Bottle courtesy of beerlando. 2006 batch. Pours hazy amber with off white head. Aromas of sweet malts, caramel, dark fruits. Malty caramel bread flavor with some hops coming through. Alcohol is barely noticeable for 11.5% ABV. Full body with minimal carbonation and a syrupy mouthfeel. A nice American style barley wine.
