Cask-conditioned at the Market Porter, Southwark 09/06/09. Deep gold in colour with a moderate white head. Aroma of fruity malts and spicy hops. Flavour began with some sweetness, fruit and earthiness before a long, bitter finish. A lot going on for 3.5% ABV. Enjoyable.

(Cask at Akkurat, Stockholm 3 April 2009) Amber colour with brief, frothy, white head. Malty, nutty nose with biscuity malt and hints of fruit. Malty, slightly fruity taste with notes of biscuits, nuts, hints of dried fruit and dusty, citrussy hops in the finish. A decent and very drinkable bitter.

[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat, Reading] Pours a dirty amber with a moderate cream head. Slight carbonation. Initially malty with a growing bitterness. Rather watery texture, yet leaves a syrupy residue on your lips. Late bursts of sweet, fresh apple and a hint of orange fail to save what is the first below-par ale I’ve ever had from this brewery.

Cask at the Nags Head, Reading. Dull amber with a thin off-white head; silky texture with caramel malt flavours; dry nettley bitterness to finish with a hint of caramel sweetness. Not Loddon’s best.
