[Cask at the Hope Tap (JDW), Reading.] Very lively and difficult to draw - eventually settled with a straw body and thin dense off-shite head; grainy cereal aroma; similar flavours with some citrus and honey; smooth creamy finish, slightly dry and peppery and no sign of the Cascade hops.

Cask at Carpenters Arms, Marylebone, London, 22 Nov 2008. Golden amber colour with creamy, off-white head. Fruity, floral nose with notes of apricots, orange and grass. Fruity taste with peaches, citrus, biscuity malt and grassy, citrussy hops in the finish. Rather sweet with hints of honey. Nice beer. In short: grass and citrus with a touch of honey.

[1st rate, 3/9/2008. Cask at Monks Retreat, Reading. RB 7/3/7/3/13 (3.3)] For some reason I always think of Loddon as specialising in tasty, refreshing modern golden ales, so it came as quite a surprise when this one poured the deep amber of a very tradional English bitter. The flavours were traditional too - a deep, earthy bitterness well balanced against the sweetness of plums, with plenty of peppery malt in there. Unusual in that the bitterness comes first and the sweetness follows - in English bitters I normally find it’s the other way around. The downside is that it does leave a slightly sticky mouthfeel, so is not hugely refreshing. This is as packed full of taste as I’ve come to expect from Loddon, and is a very enjoyable pint.[2nd rate, 12/4/2017. Cask at Three Tuns, High Wycombe. RB 7/3/7/3/14 (3.4)] Malty, plums, butterscotch, touch of spice, earthy bitterness. Yup, 9 years after my first rate this is still a tasty, decent bitter.
