Vom Fass in the wonderful Biergarten of Kloster Scheyern 20 Jun 07. Dark amber. A small tanned head. Strong aroma of caramel. A complex roasted and fruity flavor. Well rounded. A lasting sweet bitter aftertaste with a sweet bitter finish. A very good bock!

Bottle, 5.4% as Scheyern Kloster-Gold Hell. Clear golden colour. Semi-stable head. Mild flavour, mostly grain and hay. Low bitterness. Watery finish. Rubbery mouthfeel. Harmless and very boring.

500ml bottle bought at the Kloster-Getränkemarkt in Scheyern and enjoyed at a hotel room. Cloudy, light dark body under a creamy, white foamy head. Aroma of banana ripeness. The taste is a blent of clove, wheat and yeast overlaid by caramel sweetness. Moderate palate (Ingertsheim 20.06.2007).

500ml vom Fass. Moderate aroma of sweet, dark malts. Brownish head retention on a low level. Clear brown body. Flavour of dark malt accompanied by caramel. Slightly bitter touch in ending (Biergarten at Bräustüberl, Scheyern 20.06.2007).

500ml Vom Fass shared with CatweazleTroms at the Bräustüberl in Scheyern. Grassy aroma. Some initial white foam over a clear and deep golden body. Brush of sweet grain, but also fruity hops in a rounded taste. Watered. Thin to medium palate (20.06.2007).

On our way to Ingolstadt we took a short side trip to visit the Benedektinerkloster of Scheyern. On a sunny and warm early afternoon we had a very nice time sampling most of their beers (and some food) in the worderful beergarten of Klosterstub´n Scheyern.
First came the 500ml bockbier with the name Kiliator vom fass. Nice in appearance with its deep copper brown colour over a light brownish foam, mostly diminishing. Sweet aroma of dark malts and spicies. Taste of dark fruits and berries wrapped up in a delicious dark chocolate package. More spicy notes towards the finish. Slightly bittersweet aftertaste. Well bodied. Some days later I also had a 500ml bottle called doppelbock Dunkel. It seems to be the same beer, though this one had 7.4% alcohol (Scheyern and Irgetsheim 20.06 and 23.06.2007).

Bottle: Hazy, chestnut coloured, bigger, stable off-white head; sourish malty and fruity nose; papery, soapy sweetish-malty taste, light bodied; finishes fruity-wheaty and papery. Ugh, a real drain-pour.......
