Established in 2003 by Nick Boughton and Jon Hunt, the brewery is located in an 18th-century textile mill and uses an eight-barrel plant. More than 30 regular outlets are supplied. The Millstone Brewery restores a traditional craft to the town of Mossley, situated where the counties of Cheshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire meet.
Today Millstone is still producing popular beers that are being enjoyed not only locally but nationwide through our trusted distributors. Having brewed numerous beers over the years, we've narrowed our beers down to a strong core range of three regulars, including a stout, and three occasional. This doesn't mean that we're not working on or developing new beers so keep your eyes peeled.

cask at cloisters edinburgh... copper ... fruity dry hop ... dry hoppy light fruit ... ever so slight smoke.

Cask @ Market Porter with Magic Dave6 and Mes. Clear golden color with a white head. Lots of floral aromas and hints of citric fruit. Crispy finish indeed but a bit lighter than I would like.

Cask at cloisters ... Golden amber ... nice sweet grapefruit hop ... wow soft mouthfeel ... medium carbonation ... wonderfull rich grapefruit ... bit bitter and drying but flavour makes up for it.

Cask (handpump) @ Wellington (formerly Cask & Cutler), Sheffield, Bedfordshire England S3 8GG.Clear medium to dark yellow color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, white to off-white head. Aroma is light to moderate malty, toasted, fruity - mango, moderate hoppy, citrus - lime. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is flat. (270708)

Cask at cloisters ... Wow 1st rating in over a year ... Nice light amber ...Very light fruity nose ... Sweet light caramel ... Very soft mouthfeel ... juicy really tastye and smooth ... maybe just a touch of melon. Really liked this

[i] [b] Cask conditioned at Banbury Beer Festival 09-05-08 [/i] [/b] Golden in colour with a slight haze, lovely aromatic hoppy fragrance, malts and hops combine well but ultimately its the hoppiness and freshness of this beer that make this a pretty decent beer.

Cask-conditioned at the Bag O’Nails, Bristol 11/10/07. Burnished gold with a slight off-white head. Aroma of hay and floral hops. Flavour began with a touch of grainy malt before a fruity hop finish. Very drinkable.

Medium-sized white head atop a light, tangerine/peach body that is bright and bubbly. Lacing is moderate, as is the retention.
Sweet graham crackers and marmalade lay side-by-side in the nose, though not as heavy as that sounds. But the malt is definitely there and not very bready or grainy. Juicy, bright hop aromatics are similar to tart tangerines and lots of leafy, lush hop oils. But through all that, it keeps coming back to the simple, yet ample maltiness that is soft and lightly sweet, balancing the hops well. Fortunately, it dosent seem overly bitter from the nose.
Juicy, almost sweet hop notes give off an array of fruit flavors. Tangerines, nectarines and lemons, mainly, with a strong, rather dry maltiness that shows more graham cracker and very light breadiness. Almost like a bitter in its malt character, with some near-caramel flavors. Hops give a nip of bitterness, but are otherwise mostly just flavorful. Engaging carbonation and spot-on attenuation make for a very drinkable beer. No flaws.

Draught half-pint at NERAX on 5/4/07
Well to further polarize the ratings thus far….I gotta say that I didn’t enjoy this one. It was in good shape, don’t get me wrong, and was flawless, but I didn’t find the snappy or interesting hoppiness that some mention. In fact, all I got was malt.
The nose seemed soggy, wet and like smelling a dozen different varieties of soaked grains that had been sparged (no sweetness). Maybe a touch of lemon citrus, but it didnt match the earthy, grainy, dry nature of the malts. Aroma strength was rather weak as well.
The flavor was unique, I’ll give it that, and you could definitely taste the fact that there was (a rather high proportion of) wheat in here. I couldnt really pick out anything with any real clarity, however, and it just tasted rather muddled, doughy/creamy and bland. Lots of paperiness and almost a light toasted malt character providing plenty of earthiness as well. Some heavy acidity on the finish with tons of chewy malt texture. No alcohol, no flaws, but it just didnt work for me. Not enough malt suppleness and I didnt like the weird toasty/earthy/bready character with tea-like hop astringency.
