From bottle at Alvinne. Pours dark brown with a little lacing off-white head. Aroma is quite woody. Flavour starts with a distinct vegetable note, descendts into a caramel malt flavour before a solid liqourice note kicks in. After this mild wood note with vanilla reappears. Lingering spiced, woody and liqourice finish. Nice.

On tap at ZBF 08. Beer of the festival apparently. I like the hoppiness. Dry hop aroma. Slightly young lambic aroma with good floral hop. Bitter finish. For me, very good.

On tap at ZBF 08. Blond, very hoppy beer. It’s pretty good, drinkable, along the lines of XX Bitter. Belgian yeasty hoppy golden ale. Above average. 3.5/5 Re-rate at Twickenham Brewery tasting 08. Very pleasant hoppy, creamy beer that is very very drinkable.

[i] [b] Bottle from Dranken Geers, Gent, Belgium [/i][/b]Poured very hazy light amber with small white head flecked with the odd speckle of yeast. This had a real concentrated juicy fruitness about it, it burst through. The fruit was very much sweet, spicy, bitter seville orange quite glorious. The bitterness hung around for a little while and this was quite an unusual beer really concentrated taste. The alcohol never really got in the way and neither did the sweetness. Lovely beer that on another day I could probably have easily marked as a 4+.

[i] [b] Had this at ZBF Sint Niklaas, Belgium, 02-03-08 [/i] [/b] Pours hazy golden colour with a glinting white head of foam. My first taste automatically makes me think of parma violet sweets that I had as a kid, bit weird to find this in a beer though. The taste is both intriguing and a bit weird, there is a ’perfumeyness’ to the taste, if such a word exists but also grapefruit, the nose is very floral. Everyone else around our table appeared to like this much more than I did, I liked it but felt that it was also rather odd.

[i] [b] Bottle at ZBF Sint Niklaas, Belgium, 02-03-08 [/i] [/b] Some sourness on the nose but there’s actually a lot more maybe, will have to come back to the nose in a bit. Pours golden, in fact deep golden with white thin rim and with an almost oaky woodiness to the taste this really is quite an interesting beer. I return back to the nose and bingo it has noble rot on the aroma reminding me of a ’Royal Tokay’ if the taste was a good as the aroma we’d have had a 4+ beer on our hands, still it was very nice.

Muddy, blond body. Off-white creamy to rocky head. Aroma of hops and orange. Heavily bitter, citric flavour. Quite 1 dimensional and not extremely well balanced, but not bad.

[i] [b] ZBF 2008 on the Saturday [/i] [/b] Poured a hazy lemon colour with white head, and started off with a good rush of hops and bitterness. The bitterness sort of hung around like an uninvited mother-in-law, which is a strange thing for me to say because if Loz and I were married my mother-in-law would always be most welcome, it’s just typical of my notes sometimes and bizarely I meant for the bitterness thing in a positive way, I like that about it. There was a very good tang to this beer, another flurry of sweetness, finishing with some soft slightly restrained hops, very nice.
