Oh my, 10% eeewow. When I bought this I was thinken we have a nice friendly wit style beer. Now, when I popped the lid I did notice a slight sour or tart aroma. Then the flags went up when I started to pour, here we have a very dark brown turbulent cloudy beer with things swirling around. Unfiltered wheat? Yes, but this is more than I bargained for. First taste is lots of alky, what else? It is difficult to hide 10%, we are approaching the content of wine here. Bitter banana alky shock to the taste buds, quite an experience. Quite difficult to enjoy due to the alky wallop content. Certainly dark, certainly wheatish but not a session beer, if you have a couple of these you’ll never get by a DUI check point. Not nearly as enjoyable as Victory Moonglow Weizenbock or Schneider Aventinus. This stuff needs some refining. It is more on par with Eisenbahn Weizenbock (Vigorosa) which is much less civilized. Hey I like wheat beers but this is a little over the top!

Bouteille 12oz, courtoisie de Hogtownharry. De couleur cuivrée et transparente. Nez de houblon très floral et moyennement citrique (pamplemousse) et aux notes résineuses, fruité (abricots, léger d’agrumes, notes de poire et de pêche) ainsi que légèrement malté de caramel très doux. Moyennement ronde en bouche avec un pétillement moyen et une texture crémeuse et légèrement huileuse. Goût amer de houblon floral frais, citrique (pamplemousse) avec de petites notes résineuses et herbeuses (qui dure toute la gorgée) ainsi qu’un goût fruité (abricots, moyen d’agrumes, léger de pêche, notes de poires) lors de l’entrée en bouche auquel se rajoute un goût malté de biscuits sucrés et de caramel très doux puis en finale l’on assiste à un regain d’amertume plus asséchante, plus citrique et légèrement plus herbeuse accompagné de notes d’alcool doux et d’épices (notes de poivre et de menthe). Post-goût très long et sec, amer de houblon floral, citrique (pamplemousse), aux notes herbeuses et résineuses avec un léger goût fruité (pelures d’abricots) et de petites traces d’alcool très doux.

Pours crystal clear gold with half inch bright white head. The aroma comes off as both floral and citrus hops, some hints of malts sweetness and slight grainy malts. This beer has a crisp floral hop taste that grows into soft and semi sweet grapefruit hops. The hops are the main player in the flavor and aroma but they are not over the top like in a typical hoppy IPA. The flavor then blends into a malt sweetness creating a sort of sweet citrus and floral hop taste. It could use a bit more malt depth. But it is a good brew though.

Banana, lemon, and yogurt nose. Pours cloudy and golden with a thick head and good lacing. The taste, again, is banana and lemon of solid strength yet not overpowering. Comparatively weak finish of perhaps lemon peel. Fuzzy mouthfeel. This is one of the better hefes I’ve had lately. Add some hops and this could be a truly fantastic beer.

Pours a clear gold color with bright white head. Early on I smell just sweet sugary malts and a hint of wheat. As the beer warmed the aroma picked up subtle fruity notes. The taste starts off with wheat and sugary sugarness and really not all that farmhouse like. When the beer warmed well above frig temps I started to notice some fruits like banana mixed with sweet apple. Finally when the beer was at room temperature some nice yeasty notes surfaced that merely hinted to the style. Too little too late though.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a chestnut color with a trace of a tan head. The aroma was sour, tangy, sweet and had an apple element. The flavor was sweet and sugary with notes of caramel, cherry, apply and a hint of nutty malts. The finish was dryish nutty caramel. The beer hides the alcohol very well.

A hazey golden ale with rosey hues and a thin white head. Very faint raspeberry aromas, nothing much else. In mouth, a tart refreshing wheat beer, with restrained fruits, not bad, but not Belgian at all. Bought at Party Source, Feb. 2007.

Roasted malt aroma. Pours clear and dark ruby brown with a thin head and decent lacing. Tastes is woody, smoky, and cantaloupe. There’s a faint whisper of smoke afterwards. Thin mouthfeel.

Pours very nice clear deep gold color with off white head. Solid hop aroma with biter grapefruit hops and sweeter citrus orange juice. Behind all the hops is a mild sweet malt aroma. The flavor jumps to life with grapefruit hop bitterness. At a lesser extent is a sweeter citrus hop flavor from a late addition of hops to the boil. Way in the background is a murmur of malt sweetness. The beer closes its taste experience with big citrus hop bitterness long into the after taste. Body seems a bit thin.

Deep cola coloured body with a nice dense tan head that tops the beer very nicely. Looks good, although a bit too clear - doesn’t look like much body. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, nuts, raisins and strong tints of metal. Full-bodied; Strong roasted malt flavours along with plenty of pit fruits, dates, raisins and musty figs. Alcohol overload and a very chewy maltiness tucked in with some of the metallic twanginess of the aroma. Overall, a strong and potent beer that doesn’t start off too mellow. I think this beer will age well and taste better in time, but its a bit rough around the edges right now. Regardless of that, the beer still is good and is probably worth trying for the style...especially in a local Washington beer.
