This brew pours a dark orange/brown color with a medium thick and foamy light tan head. Aroma of malt and dark fruits. Medium body with a bready malt character. Weak on the hops side for a Barley Wine, and has some biting alcohol and fruity flavors thrown in. The finish is dry and mildly bitter. Overall this beer seems kind of disjointed, not sure I would bother with it again.

Clear dark copper amber body with a thin off-white head that rapidly diminishes. Caramel, molassas, and rum soaked fruit aroma clearly indicating the high alcohol content. Sweet molassas and fruit flavor, some light grain and a caramel ending.

Pour is a re-brown with a huge white head. Aroma is mostly oily hops with some dark malts in there. Flavor is caramel and dark chocolate with some tart berryness. Pretty decent but a little thick and the alcohol does make an appearance.

Bottle. Pours hazy yellowish. Aroma of yeast and bananas. Flavor was pretty crisp. Thought it was better as it warmed as the first few swigs when it was opened were a little harsh.

Draft. Clear, ruby pour with small, diminishing, fizzy head. Sweet aroma of caramel and fruit along with hints of candy. Raisin and prune. The flavor starts sweet and doesn’t go anywhere. Light body and thin texture. Forgettable for a dubbel. Rerate. Bottle. Aroma was sweet with overripe prunes and raisins along with notes of caramel and an astringent hint of laquer. Some grain notes. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. The finish remains sweet with a very light bitterness. Light to medium body with a water texture. Lightly carbonated. I like this even less the second time around.

Bottle. Sweet fruit and caramel notes. Color is darkish copper. The alcohol is not entirely noticable in this beverage, especially since it has a 9% ABV.

(2005 vintage) Bottle courtesy of Sammy: Poured a light amber color ale with small foamy head with minimal retention and lacing. Aroma of dry malt is quiet weak compared to what I was expecting. Taste is strong on cardboard which is probably due to oxidation (makes me wonder about that label mentioning that this will aged with the best of them). I couldn’t notice any hops and malt was slightly watery with no sweetness at all. Definitely not something I would go back for in the future.

Bottle from Ross; Purchase before May 07Nose of vanilla, caramel, and cloves, mixed with a bit of floral hops; yellow-amber with a small off white head; flavor has caramel, vanilla, spiciness; body is medium with a very light bitter hop finish. Very Good ESL!

12 oz bottle...brown with red orange highlights..no lasting foam except on the swirl...slightly fruity aroma backed by just enough malt to cover its tracks...all in all the aroma is just a mild whiff in the wind...pleasant but doesn’t blow me away...alcohol on first sip...then sweetness enveloped in malts...a stickiness to the mouth feel yet clean and balanced well...the muddled fruits show through on the finish...a bit of dry and salty features on the finish as well
