Cask at Victoria, Derby. Pours golden amber with minimal off-white head and good lacing. The aroma has malts, fudge and dried fruit. However, in the mouth mixed hops are prominent giving it a decided bitterness, though with a touch of sweetness underneath. Apart from that the flavour has toffee, caramel, marmalade and hints of autumn fruits. Bitterness lasts into the dry finish. This is a really good old school IPA.

Cask at Old Bell, Derby. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with a small tan head and good lacing. There’s roasted malts and toffee in the aroma, plus some traces of milky coffee. In the mouth it is quite sweet, and somewhat thin with coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Hints of spice and dark fruits come through later, leading to a slightly fruity finish. This is quite decent.
