0.5 l bottle from 'Crafters', bottled in November 2015, cellared for almost two years. Clear, deep amber with a thin, fluffy, quickly diminishing, white head. Sweetish, slightly sourish, moderately fruity and slightly smoky aroma of wheat, peach, rhubarb, sauerkraut and some campfire. Slightly sweet, moderately sour, gently fruity and a bit smoky taste of peach, rhubarb, wheat, some sauerkraut and traces of campfire, followed by a short, moderately tart, gently dry and a bit smoky finish. Thin to medium body, slightly astringent and gently effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very interesting beer, I could assume it was a bit fruitier and smokier three years ago. Now it's pretty mellow in all regards, very pleasant to drink but also less outspoken than expected.

From the bottle. Orange with a foamy but fleeting crown. Aroma of peach, orange pop. Despite the name, no real smoke. Taste is sweet, full of peach but rapidly trends tart. Finishes with a lingering tartness and a lingering peach pop aftertaste—if there is such a thing. Body is medium, prickly, sticky. Drinkable but not really my thing.

On tap at Smuttynose - Hayseed, pours black with a small light brown head. Aroma brings out intensely roasted malt, with some sludgy notes and light cocoa. Flavour is anything but subtle, with a humongous wallop of chocolate fudge, roasted malt, and a little vanilla. So much going on here, with a fudgey finish. Excellent.

Taster pour at the source. Appearance is hazy pinkish-red (like a rosé), no sparkle, thick light purple head (but keg just kicked so hard to know how much was legit) with poor retention and no lacing. Aromas is light berry, wheat, yeast. Taste is mix of tart and sweet berry, with tart being more dominant. Palate is light bodied with thin, smooth texture, soft carbonation with mix of sweet and tart berry finish. Overall, avoids the one-eye-closing sourness of a typical Berliner Weisse and it is fairly balanced between tart and sweet, so for those that like a smidge of tart this may be good for you, but tart just isn't my thing.

Pours virtually black from the bottle. Tall, frothy tan head that turns creamy. Strong notes of coffee and chocolate in the aroma. Then the floral notes, something sour, a bit vinegary, a light hint of brett. But overall much more of a typical stout aroma than I was expecting. Taste is sweet up front, full of heavy cream and chocolate. The sourness plays out at the finish, which is long and a touch warming. Body is quite thick with an oily viscosity. Overall very nice. A lot of stout-like flavors and yet very refreshing.

Yellow to orange and hazy with a foamy white crown. Aroma with elements of vinegar, citrus and funk. Taste is sour with a light acidity. Body stays fairly light, texture is watery. Not actually bad but totally uninteresting. The main thing inspiring me to finish the bottle is the €6 price tag on top.

Bottle. Hazy deep ruby color with white head. Aroma reminds me of Cherry chipotle, with smoke & cherries, tart. Taste is smoked, cherries, lacto, yoghurt. Tart finish. Solid, but not great.

Bottle. Bright cherry red, low offwhite head. Bubblegum, bandaid and cherry aroma. Sour, dry body, sparkly. Quite lactic, smoke, veggies, weird, sour cherry finish. Not a fan.

Taster pour at the brewery. Appearance is opaque black with tons of sparkle at the edge of the glass, creamy light brown head with great retention and light leggy lacing. Aroma is red wine, roasted malts. Taste is chocolate, red wine, dark fruits--sweet. Palate is full bodied with smooth, creamy texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, this is really a nice decadent treat. Solid across the board.

Nice crisp amber and deep coppered coloured body with a good three to four centimetre tall rich tan head. Aroma of rich nuts, earth, grain, alcohol toffee and yeast with a good bit of astringent flavour and pungency near the end. Medium-bodied; Mild malty flavour of earth and toffee with a big dose of chestnuts or pecans around the edges with a bit of a yeastie funk and some subdued sweetness from caramel and brown sugar. Aftertaste shows some sweetness from the caramel and toffee with a pleasant malty flavour with no pungency and it all finishes with a nice chestnut flavour that goes down quite easily. Some yeast funk is around and leaves a good light saison-like flavour, but not much at all - the nuts are way more strong. Overall, a nice beer with some good flavours and a smooth sweetness without much funk or any astringency at all. My only complaint is that this isn't really a saison by any means, but it doesn't mean it's not a great beer. I sampled this 50 cL bottle purchased from Total Wine in Fairfax, Virginia on 10-September-2017 for US$6,49 sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 25-January-2018.
